We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Mechanical Shift Operator - Water Treatment Plant

Location: Akwa Ibom 

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate water treatment systems including pumps, filters, valves, chemical dosing units, and control panels.
  • Start-up, shutdown, and adjust plant equipment as per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure uninterrupted plant operation and required production output during the shift.
  • Monitor key operational parameters such as flow rate, pressure, tank levels, and chemical dosing rates.
  • Record plant readings at scheduled intervals.
  • Observe plant performance and report deviations to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Carry out routine checks on water quality parameters such as pH, turbidity, chlorine residual, and TDS.
  • Assist in sampling and testing activities as directed by the laboratory team.
  • Adjust chemical dosing under the guidance of the Shift Supervisor to maintain required standards.
  • Conduct routine inspection of pumps, motors, pipelines, and treatment units.
  • Identify leaks, unusual noise, vibration, or malfunction.
  • Report equipment faults immediately to the Shift Supervisor or maintenance team.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the plant area, equipment rooms, and chemical storage areas.
  • Ensure tools and materials are stored properly after use.
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.
  • Use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Handle treatment chemicals safely according to safety guidelines and MSDS instructions.
  • Report unsafe conditions or incidents immediately.
  • Maintain shift logs and operational records accurately.
  • Record production data, chemical usage, and equipment status.
  • Assist in preparing daily shift reports.
  • Communicate operational issues clearly during shift handover.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, maintenance, and laboratory personnel as required.

Requirements
Education

  • Diploma / ITI / Technical Certificate in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related field.

Experience:

  • 8–10 years’ experience in water treatment plant or similar industrial operations preferred.

Certifications:

  • Any suitable certifications in the field or related field.

Selection Criteria:

  • Expert knowledge of RO, UF, DM, filtration, clarifiers, and chemical dosing systems.
  • Should have proven ability to monitor plant parameters such as flow, pressure, pH, conductivity, and levels.
  • Should possess required experience in maintaining log sheets and operational records.
  • Should have proven ability to identify equipment abnormalities and report issues.
  • Should have good understanding of basic troubleshooting and equipment monitoring.
  • Should have good basic knowledge of SCADA/PLC systems.
  • Should have knowledge of plant safety procedures and chemical handling.
