Job Title: Head, Credit Risk (MFB)

Job Summary
- The Head of Credit Risk is responsible for developing and overseeing the credit risk management framework of the microfinance bank, with a strong focus on retail, micro, and SME lending.
- The role ensures effective identification, measurement, monitoring, and mitigation of credit risk while supporting financial inclusion objectives and sustainable portfolio growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement credit risk policies, frameworks, and procedures tailored to microfinance operations.
- Oversee credit appraisal and approval processes for micro, SME, and retail loan portfolios.
- Monitor loan portfolio quality, including PAR (Portfolio at Risk), delinquency trends, and non-performing loans (NPLs).
- Design and maintain credit scoring models and risk assessment tools suitable for low-income and informal sector clients.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) guidelines for microfinance banks and IFRS 9.
- Establish risk appetite, credit limits, and concentration thresholds aligned with business strategy.
- Lead portfolio stress testing and scenario analysis, especially for vulnerable customer segments.
- Drive early warning systems, collections strategies, and recovery processes.
- Collaborate with business teams to ensure responsible lending practices while achieving growth targets.
- Oversee loan review and audit processes to ensure credit discipline across branches.
- Prepare and present credit risk reports to senior management, board committees, and regulators.
- Manage and develop the credit risk and portfolio monitoring team.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in banking or microfinance, with strong exposure to credit risk.
- Strong experience in retail/SME lending, portfolio management, and collections.
- Good knowledge of CBN microfinance regulations and IFRS 9 provisioning.
- Experience working with credit scoring systems and data-driven lending models.
- Professional certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM, ACCA) are an advantage.
