ECWA Hospital, Egbe, a division of ECWA (Evangelical Church Winning All), is a rural teaching hospital established in 1952 and located in Egbe, Kogi State, Nigeria. The hospital serves a 100-mile radius of villages and small towns in a poor area. It is a 110-bed hospital on a 32-acre complex that includes 5 wards for patients, 3 Operating rooms, a Maternity ward, an Under-fives clinic, an Eye care center, an HIV/AIDs counseling center, a Physiotherapy clinic, and a dental clinic. The hospital runs a 24-hour emergency and intensive care unit. The hospital has an X-ray department with digital radiology including portable X-ray, outpatient and bedside ultrasound services, electrocardiography, gastroscopy, and HSG.

Job Title: Biomedical Manager

Location: Egbe, Kogi

Job Description

  • Reporting to the Director of Administration, the Biomedical Manager will oversee the management, maintenance, and safe use of medical equipment and biomedical technologies within the hospital.
  • The role includes supervising/training biomedical engineers/technicians/interns, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards, coordinating equipment procurement and servicing, managing budgets, and supporting clinical teams with reliable technology to deliver quality patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee biomedical engineering operations.
  • Ensure regular maintenance, calibration, and repair of medical equipment.
  • Manage procurement, installation, and commissioning of new medical devices.
  • Develop and implement biomedical policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards (local and international).
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment inventory, servicing, and performance.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to assess equipment needs and provide technical support.
  • Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and service agreements.
  • Prepare and manage the biomedical department’s budget and expenditure.
  • Monitor emerging medical technologies and recommend upgrades or replacements.
  • Ensure prompt response to biomedical equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime.
  • Supervise biomedical engineers and technicians, providing guidance and training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma in Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering, or Engineering Management is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in biomedical engineering with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations, medical equipment standards, and safety protocols.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in biomedical equipment management software and MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
  • National Youth Service or Exemption Certificate.
  • High Emotional Intelligence and Employee Coaching Skill.
  • Full understanding of the Nigeria Labor Law.
  • Minimum 3 years Human Resource management or related work experience in organizing, directing, and leading others
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills in an organizational environment
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills required to interact with management and employees; collaborate on teams and develop positive working relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to details
  • Ability to work diligently under pressure and maintain confidentiality.
