ECWA Hospital, Egbe, a division of ECWA (Evangelical Church Winning All), is a rural teaching hospital established in 1952 and located in Egbe, Kogi State, Nigeria. The hospital serves a 100-mile radius of villages and small towns in a poor area. It is a 110-bed hospital on a 32-acre complex that includes 5 wards for patients, 3 Operating rooms, a Maternity ward, an Under-fives clinic, an Eye care center, an HIV/AIDs counseling center, a Physiotherapy clinic, and a dental clinic. The hospital runs a 24-hour emergency and intensive care unit. The hospital has an X-ray department with digital radiology including portable X-ray, outpatient and bedside ultrasound services, electrocardiography, gastroscopy, and HSG.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Pharmacist Technician

Location: Egbe, Kogi 

Job Description

  • Reporting to the Pharmacist/Head of Department, the Pharmacist Technician will assist the Pharmacist by carrying out the duties noted below.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the safe, effective, and economic use of pharmaceutical and related products.
  • Participate in the provision of comprehensive pharmaceutical services for the Hospital.
  • Provide clinical and dispensary services, supporting safe prescribing and administration of medicines in the hospital. Thus, they shall be of assistance to medical staff in applying the principles of pharmaceutical care to provide optimum medication for the best patient care.
  • Actively participate in providing Medicines Information (Serve as drug information resource) to other staff of ECWA Hospital Egbe, including information on the proper use and management of specific types of medicines. Also provide advice on the correct storage of drugs within wards and departments. When necessary, provide training to healthcare professionals and patient groups on the safe and effective use of medicines.
  • Analyze prescriptions for completeness and appropriateness with regards to drug name, dose, route, schedule, allergies, and interactions with other medications. Process prescriptions to ensure that patients receive accurate and appropriate drug therapy in a timely manner.
  • Counsel patients to ensure safe and effective use of their medicines and to promote concordance/adherence to treatment.
  • Engage in performance improvement activities of the pharmacy department.
  • Engage in continuing education required to obtain current and relevant knowledge to meet the changing needs of the Pharmacy Department.
  • Participate in the orientation of new employees.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Pharmacist

Qualifications 

  • HND, ND in Pharmacy Technician
  • Long term commitment to serve with desire to learn
  • Mission minded, Christian of good standing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to details
  • Ability to work diligently under pressure and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate in Yoruba is an asset

Training and self-development:

  • Read medical and pharmaceutical journals
  • Attend seminars when call upon to
