ECWA Hospital, Egbe, a division of ECWA (Evangelical Church Winning All), is a rural teaching hospital established in 1952 and located in Egbe, Kogi State, Nigeria. The hospital serves a 100-mile radius of villages and small towns in a poor area. It is a 110-bed hospital on a 32-acre complex that includes 5 wards for patients, 3 Operating rooms, a Maternity ward, an Under-fives clinic, an Eye care center, an HIV/AIDs counseling center, a Physiotherapy clinic, and a dental clinic. The hospital runs a 24-hour emergency and intensive care unit. The hospital has an X-ray department with digital radiology including portable X-ray, outpatient and bedside ultrasound services, electrocardiography, gastroscopy, and HSG.
Job Description
- Reporting to the Imaging Head of Department, the X-ray Technician will be responsible for performing diagnostic imaging procedures using digital X-ray equipment to assist healthcare professionals in diagnosing and treating medical conditions.
- This role involves preparing patients for imaging exams, operating digital X-ray machinery, and ensuring high-quality images while adhering to safety protocols.
- The technician will collaborate with physicians to maintain patient records in the Voyance and Electronic Medical Record database and provide compassionate care throughout the imaging process.
Responsibilities
Patient Preparation:
- Explain imaging procedures to patients to ensure understanding and alleviate anxiety.
- Prepare patients for X-ray examinations, including positioning them correctly and ensuring their comfort.
- Verify patient identification and obtain informed consent as necessary.
Operation of Equipment:
- Operate digital X-ray machinery and related equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
- Adjust equipment settings and positions based on specific procedures and patient needs.
- Maintain equipment and perform routine quality control checks to ensure optimal functioning.
Image Quality Assurance:
- Ensure that images are of high quality, with appropriate exposure and positioning, to assist in accurate diagnoses.
- Review images for clarity and completeness, and repeat examinations if necessary.
Collaboration with Medical Staff:
- Work closely with physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide necessary imaging services.
- Discuss images with radiologists and assist in interpreting findings as required.
- Maintain accurate patient records in the Voyance and Electronic Medical Record database.
Collaboration with IT staff
- Report technical issues related to the Digital x-ray system to the IT department for immediate action.
Safety Protocols:
- Adhere to radiation safety protocols to protect patients, staff, and oneself from unnecessary exposure.
- Maintain a sterile environment and follow infection control procedures.
Patient Care:
- Provide compassionate care throughout the imaging process, addressing patient concerns and comfort.
- Monitor patients for any adverse reactions during and after imaging procedures.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Document all procedures performed, including patient information, imaging details, and any complications.
- Assist in compiling reports and summaries of imaging studies as needed.
Continuous Learning:
- Stay updated with advancements in imaging technology and best practices.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
- National Diploma in Radiography
- Experience working in a similarly sized institution or hospital
- Christian of good standing
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work diligently under pressure and maintain confidentiality
- The ability to communicate in Yoruba is an asset
