ECWA Hospital, Egbe, a division of ECWA (Evangelical Church Winning All), is a rural teaching hospital established in 1952 and located in Egbe, Kogi State, Nigeria. The hospital serves a 100-mile radius of villages and small towns in a poor area. It is a 110-bed hospital on a 32-acre complex that includes 5 wards for patients, 3 Operating rooms, a Maternity ward, an Under-fives clinic, an Eye care center, an HIV/AIDs counseling center, a Physiotherapy clinic, and a dental clinic. The hospital runs a 24-hour emergency and intensive care unit. The hospital has an X-ray department with digital radiology including portable X-ray, outpatient and bedside ultrasound services, electrocardiography, gastroscopy, and HSG.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Scrub Technician

Location: Egbe, Kogi

Job Description

  • Reporting to the Head of Department Operating Room, the Scrub Technician will work under the supervision of the surgeons to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive, surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe and the operative procedures are conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.

Responsibilities

  • Check and prepare supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure.
  • Ensure that the theater has been cleaned before surgical instruments are opened up.
  • Scrub, gown and glove using aseptic techniques.
  • Set up sterile table with instruments, supplies and equipment, and medication/solution needed for procedure, assembling drapes and instruments according to use.
  • Perform appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed and informs the surgeon of results.
  • Gown and glove surgeon and his/her assistant.
  • Help in draping sterile field.
  • Pass instruments to the surgeon during the procedure while watching out for hand signals and responding skillfully.
  • Receive sterile equipment via circulating nurse using sterile techniques.
  • Maintain high standards of sterile techniques during procedure.
  • Prepare sterile dressings.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic techniques and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
  • Assist other members of the team with terminal cleaning of the room.
  • Assist in preparing the room for the next patient.
  • Handle instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure.
  • Understand the procedures being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
  • Employ necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of sterile field.
  • Contribute in training of students.
  • Assume responsibility of keeping the operating room sterile.
  • Position and prepare patient on operating table.
  • Assume duties within and out of the sterile field as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

  • National Diploma in Nursing, community health or any other related health care course.
  • Long term commitment of at least five years
  • A desire to learn

  • Christian of good standing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to details
  • Ability to work diligently under pressure and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate in Yoruba is an asset.
