ECWA Hospital, Egbe, a division of ECWA (Evangelical Church Winning All), is a rural teaching hospital established in 1952 and located in Egbe, Kogi State, Nigeria. The hospital serves a 100-mile radius of villages and small towns in a poor area. It is a 110-bed hospital on a 32-acre complex that includes 5 wards for patients, 3 Operating rooms, a Maternity ward, an Under-fives clinic, an Eye care center, an HIV/AIDs counseling center, a Physiotherapy clinic, and a dental clinic. The hospital runs a 24-hour emergency and intensive care unit. The hospital has an X-ray department with digital radiology including portable X-ray, outpatient and bedside ultrasound services, electrocardiography, gastroscopy, and HSG.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Nurse Officer

Location: Egbe, Kogi 

Job Description

  • The Nurse Officer shall work closely with the head of department to advocate and care for individuals and support them through health and illness in a compassionate way that glorifies Jesus Christ.

Responsibilities

  • Admit and discharge patients
  • Maintain personal hygiene of the patients including bathing, care of mouth, back, nails, hair etc.
  • Care for pressures points as needed
  • Assist the patient in eliminating, offering, and removing the bed pans and urinals
  • Care for the dying
  • Prepare the corpse
  • Administer medicines and injections to patients
  • Assist in the administration of intravenous injections, injections, infusion and transfusion.
  • Observe, record and report vital signs
  • Carry out technical procedures such as naso-gastric intubation, gastric gavage and lavage, oxygen therapy, dressing, enema, suctioning etc.
  • Escorting patients to and from the department for investigations
  • Handing and taking over of patients per shift
  • Handing and taking over of ward inventory per shift
  • Routine care and cleaning of dressing trolleys, cupboards etc.
  • Maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the ward.
  • Maintain interpersonal relationship with the patients, relatives and health team members
  • Orientation of new staff
  • Demonstration and guidance to student nurses
  • Any other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience

  • National Diploma or BSc in Nursing
  • Two years’ work experience especially in a mission setting is an asset
  • Appropriate professional technical training.
  • Long term commitment
  • A desire to learn, teach and train others
  • Mission minded; Christian of good standing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to details
  • Ability to work diligently under pressure and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate in Yoruba is an asset
  • An attitude of serving.
