ECWA Hospital, Egbe, a division of ECWA (Evangelical Church Winning All), is a rural teaching hospital established in 1952 and located in Egbe, Kogi State, Nigeria. The hospital serves a 100-mile radius of villages and small towns in a poor area. It is a 110-bed hospital on a 32-acre complex that includes 5 wards for patients, 3 Operating rooms, a Maternity ward, an Under-fives clinic, an Eye care center, an HIV/AIDs counseling center, a Physiotherapy clinic, and a dental clinic. The hospital runs a 24-hour emergency and intensive care unit. The hospital has an X-ray department with digital radiology including portable X-ray, outpatient and bedside ultrasound services, electrocardiography, gastroscopy, and HSG.
Job Description
- ECWA Hospital Egbe is in search of experienced midwives with experience of at least 5 years.
- Reporting to the Head of Department Maternity, the midwife will offer complete care and support to women during their pregnancy, labour, deliveries, and postpartum period.
- The midwife is responsible for maintaining the health and well-being of both the mother and the infant, as well as giving professional advice, delivering babies, and providing postnatal care.
Responsibilities
Antenatal Care:
- Conduct regular check-ups and assessments.
- Monitor the health of the mother and fetus.
- Provide education and advice on prenatal health, nutrition, and lifestyle.
Labor and Delivery:
- Assist and support women during labor.
- Manage normal deliveries and recognize early signs of complications.
- Provide pain management and support techniques.
- Perform emergency interventions if necessary.
Postnatal Care:
- Monitor the health of the mother and newborn.
- Provide breastfeeding support and education.
- Offer guidance on newborn care and postnatal recovery.
- Conduct postnatal check-ups and identify any health concerns.
Education and Counseling:
- Educate women and families about pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal care.
- Provide emotional support and counseling.
- Conduct childbirth preparation classes.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work collaboratively with obstetricians, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records.
Health Promotion:
- Advocate for women’s health and well-being.
- Promote healthy lifestyle choices and preventive care.
- Engage in community outreach and education programs.
Qualifications and Experience
- Certified midwife with a recognized qualification in midwifery.
- Valid nursing and midwifery license.
- Strong clinical skills and knowledge of maternal and neonatal health.
- Excellent communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
- Experience in managing normal and high-risk pregnancies is preferred.
- Appropriate professional technical training.
- Five years’ work experience, especially in a mission setting is an asset.
