Job Description
- The General Manager (GM) of an ice cream company is a high-level, strategic role responsible for the overall daily operations, profitability, and growth of the business. This position requires a blend of leadership, financial acumen, and a deep understanding of the food service and manufacturing industries.
- Key duties and responsibilities are typically organized around strategic, operational, financial, and people management functions.
Strategic and Business Management:
- Developing Strategy: Creating and implementing business strategies for growth, identifying new market opportunities, and analyzing market trends and competitor activities.
- Performance Monitoring: Evaluating the operational and financial performance using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and preparing reports for upper management or the board of directors.
- Business Development: Managing relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, suppliers, and business partners.
- Marketing and Sales: Developing programs and initiatives with the marketing team to drive sales, improve brand visibility, and enhance customer loyalty.
Operational Management:
- Daily Operations Oversight: Ensuring smooth, efficient, and high-quality operations across all departments, from production to the scoop shop floor.
- Quality Control: Guaranteeing that all products meet established quality, taste, and safety standards, and resolving customer complaints regarding quality or service.
- Supply Chain & Inventory: Overseeing procurement, managing inventory of raw materials (milk, flavorings, etc.), packaging, and supplies, and ensuring all deliveries are correct and timely.
- Compliance: Ensuring strict compliance with all federal, state, and local health, safety, food handling, and labor regulations.
- Equipment Maintenance: Arranging for regular maintenance and repairs of equipment such as ice cream machines, freezers, and other facility infrastructure to minimize downtime.
Financial Management:
- Budgeting and Cost Control: Creating and managing budgets, monitoring financial performance, and identifying areas for cost reduction and improved profitability (P&L responsibility).
- Financial Reporting: Maintaining sales records, tracking cash receipts, handling invoices, and submitting accurate financial reports.
- Revenue Growth: Implementing strategies to boost sales and increase overall revenue and profitability.
People Management and Leadership:
- Team Leadership: Providing leadership, guidance, and support to all staff and department managers, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Hiring and Training: Managing the recruitment, hiring, orientation, and training processes for new employees.
- Performance Management: Conducting performance evaluations, providing ongoing feedback, and handling disciplinary actions or terminations when necessary.
- Scheduling and Staffing: Organizing and overseeing staff schedules to ensure optimal efficiency and adequate coverage for all operational needs.
Qualifications
- Interested candidates should possess a Bachelor's Degree with 7-10 years experience.
