ECWA Hospital, Egbe, a division of ECWA (Evangelical Church Winning All), is a rural teaching hospital established in 1952 and located in Egbe, Kogi State, Nigeria. The hospital serves a 100-mile radius of villages and small towns in a poor area. It is a 110-bed hospital on a 32-acre complex that includes 5 wards for patients, 3 Operating rooms, a Maternity ward, an Under-fives clinic, an Eye care center, an HIV/AIDs counseling center, a Physiotherapy clinic, and a dental clinic. The hospital runs a 24-hour emergency and intensive care unit. The hospital has an X-ray department with digital radiology including portable X-ray, outpatient and bedside ultrasound services, electrocardiography, gastroscopy, and HSG.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Missionary Construction Manager, Africa

Location: Kogi 

Job Description

  • The Missionary Construction Manager, Africa, will work in a supporting, advisory and mentoring role to the national Construction Leader and Foreman in the construction of a Surgery Center and Male Ward for ECWA Hospital Egbe.
  • This important volunteer/missionary role will be the vital liaison between the US-based project leader and the national Construction Leader in ensuring clear communication on the myriad of ongoing details related to the construction process from start to finish.
  • The ideal term for this role would be 1 – 2 years, the time-frame is negotiable.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Develop the construction plan and schedule with corresponding project budgets and timelines;
  • Work with the national Construction Leader to oversee the hiring, negotiation of payment, and management of work of national construction employees, subcontractor construction crews and temporary workers;
  • Monitor the pricing, ordering, and purchasing of construction materials and supplies;
  • Ensure quality workmanship through daily inspections and work rounds;
  • Be aware of the disbursement of tools and supplies from Workshop and ensure adequate training on the use of tools;
  • Adhere to Revitalization Project accounting, billing and documentation processes;
  • Work closely with the Hospital Medical Director to facilitate and manage construction schedules pertaining to the Surgery Center and Male Ward new build;
  • Ensure process for maintaining open and clear communication with all parties – Revitalization Project Leadership, Medical Director, hospital management, community stakeholders; informing them of status of project regularly;
  • Support the missionary and/or national Maintenance Manager in the ongoing development of the maintenance protocols and procedures;

Qualifications / Experience

  • Committed Christian with a heart to serve
  • Experience in construction to include building foundations, pouring floors and building with cement block from the ground up, electrical, roofing, plumbing, tile installation and roofing
  • Experience in managing a large project including human resource management; project oversight, budgeting and project implementation
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and effective communication skills
  • Passion to provide leadership to Nigerian staff with hands-on skills
  • Experience working in cross-cultural setting a benefit
  • Adherence to hospital and mission’s policies and statement of faith
