Job Title: Business Development Manager (Building & Construction)

Job Purpose
- The Business Development Manager will drive growth by identifying new business opportunities, building strong client relationships, and promoting engineering solutions within the building services sector.
- This role bridges technical expertise with strategic sales and marketing to expand the company’s footprint across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety systems. The BDM will be responsible for planning and executing mid- to long-term channel strategies for the BSE Unit within the assigned territory.
- The role involves identifying and developing leads, converting opportunities into sales, and ensuring sustainable and profitable growth while maintaining optimal territory coverage.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities across commercial, residential, and industrial building projects.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with architects, contractors, consultants, developers, and key stakeholders.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to design and tailor solutions that meet client requirements.
- Prepare and deliver compelling technical and commercial proposals and presentations.
- Conduct market research and competitor analysis to inform business strategy.
- Negotiate contracts and close deals in alignment with company objectives.
- Track project pipelines and maintain accurate CRM records.
- Represent the company at industry events, exhibitions, and networking forums.
Sales & Territory Management:
- Drive total sales performance across all lines of business within the assigned territory.
- Maintain a strong and active sales pipeline to ensure consistent deal closure.
- Own the sales forecasting process and ensure accurate funnel management.
- Lead annual performance reviews, target setting, and sales planning.
- Ensure timely contract renewals with key accounts.
- Identify new channels, opportunities, and customer needs to drive growth.
Partner & Account Management:
- Build, manage, and leverage relationships with OEM partners.
- Liaise with partners on technical specifications, pricing, and product training.
- Ensure effective use of partner tools and resources.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key accounts.
- Negotiate pricing, service terms, and commercial agreements in line with company policies.
- Maintain and grow a robust database of at least 300 active contacts within the territory.
Business Strategy & Market Intelligence:
- Provide input into regional and national business planning.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and emerging opportunities.
- Maintain up-to-date intelligence on potential projects and industry developments.
- Develop and implement tactical sales strategies aligned with the BSE strategic plan.
Competencies and Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (preferred).
Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in business development within MEP/building services.
- At least 5 years in a managerial role.
- Proven track record in sales or business development within the construction or engineering industry.
Skills:
- Strong product knowledge in MEP solutions (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety).
- Experience in solution selling and key account management.
- Strong market research and analytical capabilities.
- Excellent sales, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strategic thinking with problem-solving ability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM tools.
- High level of commercial awareness and business acumen.
Salary
N500,000 - N800,000 / month.
