An international NGO (1) wishes to recruit, on a contract basis for the below position to plan, direct, supervise and technically support its advocacy, communication and social mobilization activities in support of the Government's polio eradication efforts, in Nigeria

Job Description
  • The Project Manager will work under the direct supervision and guidance of The Country Director. He/she will prepare monthly activity plan and provide monthly written reports to The Country Director.
  • The project manager will supervise and support all project funded staff but under the overall direction of The Country Director.
Job Responsibilities
  • The Project Manager will design, plan and implement appropriate advocacy, communication and social mobilization strategies and activities in support of the Government’s emergency action plan.
  • In consultation with The Country Director, he/she will develop annual/quarterly project work plans and budgets, ensure effective and timely implementation of those plans and prepare monthly/quarterly reports for the organization at National and International level.
  • Responsible for designing and implementing all project funded training programs and for conducting periodic review meetings to monitor progress and for sharing of experiences. When required, external training resources (e.g., consultants, Government trainers, WHO. UNICEF) may also be used.
  • Responsible for the production of appropriate information, education and communication (IEC) material, directly or through consultants, and for the distribution of all project funded logistics and supplies.
  • He/she will work in close cooperation and coordination with the government officials, WHO, UNICEF and NGOs at the national, state and local government (LGA) levels.
  • While certain set of activities may be applicable most of the field level activities of the project will be directed to those high risk states and LGAs selected for intensified support.
  • Maintain regular contact with the key Government officials (e.g.,State and LGA Government and Health Officials), and partners. Visit regularly all target high risk states and LGAs and participate in relevant consultation meetings as directed by the Country Project Director
  • Supervise and support all project funded activities through regular field visits, periodic meetings and frequent communication through mobile phone and emails. Appropriate reporting formats may also used.
  • Document results, solve problems and keep the The Country Director and the members fully informed.
  • Implement any other polio eradication related activities as directed by the Country Director
Qualification
  • A minimum of a master's degree in public health, social work or equivalent with at least five years of field experience managing a community health or development project that involves working with state and LGA governments and partners such as WHO, UNICEF and local NGOs.
  • Medical degree is not a requirement but is an added strength.
  • Previous experience working with the Government, WHO-, UNICEF and/or reputed NGOs in the field of immunization, polio eradication and/or mother and child health will be an asset.
  • He/she should have proven leadership, ability to network with senior Government officers and partners, willing to travel and has excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • He/she should be a self starter to be able to identify problem areas and find, when necessary, innovative approaches to achieving the goal of polio eradication.
