Job Title: Account Manager

Location: Lagos

About the Role

  • The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and effective management of accounting staff.
  • This role involves developing financial strategies, preparing budgets and financial reports, and providing insights to support decision-making

Key Responsibilities
General Accounting & Financial Reporting:

  • Oversee day-to-day activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger management, and reconciliations
  • Lead and supervise the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes ensuring timely and accurate reporting
  • Prepare and present accurate financial statements and reports ensuring compliance with IFRS and other regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate closing schedules across company departments and ensure timely submission of financials
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data and provide insights through periodic and ad hoc reports

Tax & Statutory Compliance:

  • Ensure timely preparation and filing of tax returns (VAT, WHT, PAYE, corporate taxes etc)
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, tax authorities, auditors, and financial institutions
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing required documentation and responding to audit inquiries

Internal Controls & Process Improvement:

  • Manage the accounting team and provide support in complex transactions
  • Monitor and improve accounting processes and systems to enhance accuracy and efficiency

Team Management and Coordination:

  • Oversee and mentor a team of accountants fostering high performance and accountability
  • Provide training, coaching, and mentoring for team development
  • Implement improvements to increase departmental efficiency

Qualification and Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required
  • Professional certification (ACA, ACCA, CPA, CMA) is mandatory
  • 5–7 years’ progressive experience in accounting roles with strong exposure to manufacturing
  • Strong experience in a managerial capacity
  • Proven track record in managing AP, AR, GL, and financial reporting processes
  • Proficiency in financial management software (Tally, Microsoft Dynamics)
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is essential
  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax regulations, statutory compliance, and financial reporting standards.
