Job Title: Accountant

Job Summary

  • Our Client in the financial space seeks an Accountant to maintain accurate financial records, perform bank reconciliations, and ensure compliance with Nigerian statutory regulations.
  • The ideal candidate should have a strong grasp of accounting principles, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage payroll and tax returns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and oversee the General Ledger, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reported in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss, and Cash Flow).
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and ensure prompt resolution.
  • Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes, ensuring efficient collections and timely payments.
  • Prepare and file statutory tax returns (VAT, WHT, PAYE) in compliance with FIRS and LIRS regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to the Nigeria Tax Act and other relevant financial and regulatory requirements.
  • Support external audit processes by preparing schedules, providing documentation, and responding to audit queries.
  • Process monthly payroll, ensuring accuracy in statutory deductions such as pensions and taxes.
  • Monitor petty cash transactions and oversee employee expense reimbursements in line with company policies.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of internal controls to safeguard company assets and improve operational efficiency.
  • Maintain and periodically verify the fixed asset register, ensuring proper documentation and tracking.
  • Support the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts in collaboration with relevant departments.
  • Conduct variance analysis (Actual vs Budget), providing insights and recommendations for cost optimization and financial performance improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.Sc. / HND) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (ICAN/ACCA) or being at the final stage of professional exams is an added advantage.
  • 3–4 years of relevant experience in a similar accounting or finance role.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAGE, QuickBooks, or Xero) and strong Microsoft Excel skills. Sound knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). High level of integrity, accountability, and professional ethics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet tight reporting deadlines.
