The Lagos State Government says no fewer than 500 youths in the state will be given free software engineering training, adding that another 250 youths will receive a special training to boost their skills.

The government, which explained that the beneficiaries would be selected in each division of the state, said the initiative would increase the employability aid orientation that would enable the beneficiaries to fit into available job opportunities in the state.

The Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti, stated this at the third stakeholders’ forum on wealth creation in Badagry, according to a statement on Monday.

Durosinmi-Etti said, “The software training will last for ii weeks and it is an ongoing initiative with an Information Technology company, Andela Talent Accelerator, while the training for 250 youths is also a partnership programme with West African Vocational Education.”

The commissioner, who stated that the application for the training would be done online, said the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment would set up five employment centres in the state to handle the logistics.

“The employment centre will afford the unemployed the opportunity to register their names and this will be done in collaboration with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency. The centres will serve as databank for employers of labour to reach out to the unemployed,” he added.

Durosinmi-Etti said the initiative would start from the Ojo Local Government Area, urging residents of Ojo and its environs to leverage on their closeness to the border and hone ,heir skills in order to take up jobs being given to their counterparts from other countries.

“Many job opportunities will soon come to this area and I am sure that only the qualified ones will be considered,” the commissioner said.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Fola Padonu, said the N25bn Empowerment Trust Fund made available by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode would be released to only qualified Lagosians with convincing business ideas.
