Job Summary
- An Inventory Manager oversees a company’s stock levels, tracking products from receiving to shipping, ensuring accurate records, and optimizing inventory turnover.
- They maintain supply chain efficiency by analyzing demand, managing vendor relationships, and supervising staff to prevent overstocking or shortages.
- Key responsibilities include conducting audits, using inventory software, and ensuring safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Supplier Management: Source vendors, negotiate purchasing terms, and manage relationships to ensure timely deliveries.
- Auditing & Reporting: Conduct regular physical inventory counts (cycle counts) and reconcile discrepancies with records.
- Warehouse Supervision: Lead and train staff on proper receiving, storage, and shipping procedures while enforcing health and safety protocols.
- Process Improvement: Implement strategies like FIFO (first-in, first-out) or LIFO to reduce waste and minimize obsolescence.
- Inventory Control: Maintain precise, up-to-date records of raw materials or finished goods using ERP systems or specialized software.
- Stock Optimization: Analyze sales data and forecasting trends to determine optimal stock levels, reorder points, and avoid stockouts or excess inventory.

Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or Logistics is often preferred but not always required.
- Experience: Proven experience as an Inventory Manager, Warehouse Manager, or similar role.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with inventory management software (e.g., Sage), ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), and MS Excel.
- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze data, forecast demand, and identify trends.
- Leadership: Experience managing a team and delegating tasks.
- Certification: Relevant certifications, such as APICS Certified in Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM), are highly valued.
