Job Title: Geologist Line Manager, Exploration & Reservoir Characterization (Principal)

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers 
Department: Technical & Development
Unit: Exploration & Reservoir Characterization

Role Purpose

  • The primary responsibility is to identify areas with geological conditions suitable for hydrocarbon accumulation.
  • You will coordinate geological activities, analyze data, and perform studies to construct static geological models and provide estimates of risk and resource potential (STOIIP/GIIP).

Key Accountabilities

  • Technical Assessment: Support the technical assessment of new initiatives and projects.
  • Site & Data Analysis: Identify prospective exploration sites using geological data, seismic studies, and reservoir knowledge. Analyze geological/geophysical data to interpret subsurface conditions.
  • Project Monitoring: Monitor project progress against milestones and implement corrective measures with the Managing Director.
  • Site Operations: Regularly visit sites for new and existing projects to ensure alignment with goals. Oversee drilling activities and ensure safety and environmental compliance.
  • Risk Management: Evaluate project feasibility, conduct risk assessments, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams, including reservoir engineers and finance professionals, to integrate findings into development plans.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present detailed exploration reports, findings, and recommendations to senior management.
  • Compliance: Ensure all activities meet regulatory standards, including NUPRC requirements and health and safety protocols.

Requirements & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Petroleum, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of subsurface experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of geological/geophysical exploration techniques, well planning, and reservoir evaluation.
  • Software Proficiency: Skilled in relevant exploration and data analysis software.
  • Soft Skills: Proven leadership, project management, and excellent communication skills.
  • Certification: Relevant professional membership is required.
