Job Description

  • The Medical Laboratory Scientist (Chemical Pathology) is responsible for conducting specialized biochemical analyses to support accurate diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients.
  • The role involves operating advanced laboratory equipment, validating test results, ensuring quality control, and maintaining compliance with laboratory standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialized chemical pathology tests, including blood chemistry, enzyme analysis, hormone assays, and metabolic profiling.
  • Analyze and interpret laboratory results, ensuring accuracy and reliability before reporting.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and analyzers.
  • Implement and monitor internal quality control and participate in external quality assurance programs.
  • Ensure proper specimen collection, handling, storage, and processing in line with standard operating procedures.
  • Validate test results and promptly escalate critical values to relevant clinicians.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of test procedures, results, and quality control records.
  • Adhere strictly to laboratory safety guidelines, infection prevention, and control protocols.
  • Support clinicians with professional advice on test selection and interpretation where required.
  • Ensure proper stock management of reagents and consumables.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and laboratory audits.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to laboratory technicians and support staff where necessary.
  • Respond to inquiries from healthcare professionals regarding laboratory results and processes.
  • Any other duty as may be assigned by Senior Leadership.
