Job Description

  • Ensure the provision of interpretation services in the working languages of honourable judges in the exercise of their judicial mandate.

Roles And Responsibilities

  • Ensure the interpretation of English into French at hearings, meetings and deliberations.
  • Provide interpretation services to judges and staff, as required.
  • Be able to work in a team of highly qualified interpreters.
  • Master simultaneous, consecutive, and other modes of interpretation.

Qualifications

  • A Master`s Degree completed by a Diploma or a Certificate in Conference Interpretation issued by a recognized institution or a university Degree in conference interpretation awarded by a recognized institution.
  • Ten years of experience in interpretation (including four years as a permanent interpreter).
  • Demonstrates exceptional precision, consistency and fidelity to the style and nuances of the source and original languages.
  • Mastery of the constitution of interpretation teams.
  • Ability to guarantee the strictest confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of terminology and documentary research techniques, and ability to exploit a wide variety of information sources.
  • Professional skills and proven subject matter.
  • Constantly concerned with its professional and personal development, and constantly monitors the evolutions of his profession.
  • Understanding of all accents, and ability to adapt to variations in throughput and style.
  • Ability to find appropriate cultural equivalents and take into account the cultural context; a thorough knowledge of language and culture is therefore essential.
  • Ability to maintain team cohesion and adopt a professional attitude in the cabin.
  • Perfect mastery of the target language and excellent knowledge of the source language. A good knowledge of the third language of ECOWAS is an asset.

  • Knowledge of ECOWAS rules and procedures in order to interpret and apply the texts of the guidelines appropriately, provide technical advice, mentor others and evaluate performance.
  • Ability to analyze a situation using indicators to assess costs, benefits, risks and opportunities for success in decision-making.
  • Ability to gather information from different sources to identify the cause of problems, the consequences of alternative causes of action, potential barriers and ways to avoid the problem in the future.
  • Ability to break down very complex situations/information in simple terms to explain recommendations and conclusions aimed at solving problems or improving operations/programs/projects.
  • Ability to develop new perspectives on situations, apply innovative solutions to problems and design new methods to solve problems or disconnections when existing methods and procedures are inapplicable, or are no longer effective.

  • Mastery of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
  • Mastery of oral and written expression in one of the official languages of ECOWAS (English, French and Portuguese). Knowledge of another language would be an added benefit.
  • Organizational and project/program management skills with significant experience in identifying the timelines, targets, costs and resources required to produce operational/program/project results in line with the results-based management approach.
  • Ability to set effective goals and targets for yourself, others and the work cell, and to adjust work or project priorities in response to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to use a participatory approach in project planning and to identify gaps in the achievement of program/project expectations and to design and implement the necessary contingency plans to carry out the desired task.
  • Ability to implement rigorous monitoring and evaluation practices and to implement regular reporting schedules for key outcomes;
  • Ability to plan, organize, control resources and comply with policies, procedures and protocols to achieve specific objectives.

Annual Salary
UAC 66,123.98 / USD 104,330.42.
