Job Title: Tax Accountant
Location: Lagos

Key Responsibilities
- The Tax Accountant is primarily responsible for ensuring that the firm’s clients, often foreign investors, meet all local and international tax obligations.
The core responsibilities include:
- Regulatory Filings: Independently prepare and review accurate tax returns, including Company Income Tax (CIT), Value Added Tax (VAT), Withholding Tax (WHT), and PAYE.
- Remittances: Ensure timely statutory remittances to relevant authorities like the FIRS (federal) and LIRS (state) to avoid penalties.
- System Management: Utilize platforms like TaxPro-Max for registrations, updates, and filing processes.
- Client Guidance: Provide strategic corporate and individual tax advice to help clients navigate the Nigerian tax system.
- International Tax: Support cross-border tax planning and structuring for multinational clients, ensuring compliance with global tax treaties.
- Risk Assessments: Conduct regular tax health checks and advisory reviews to identify potential financial exposures or liabilities.
- Authority Representation: Represent clients directly before tax authorities during inquiries, audits, and investigations.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive and organized tax records to ensure all client transactions are audit-ready at any time.
- Ledger Maintenance: Reconcile tax accounts and ensure all tax liabilities are correctly captured in the general ledger.
- Internal Controls: Monitor changes in Nigerian tax legislation and advise the firm’s management on how these impact operational or financial strategy.
Core Qualifications
- CITN Membership: Membership in the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria is critical.
- Accounting Certification: A professional qualification from ICAN or ACCA is required.
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
Essential Technical Skills:
- Tax Platforms: Full proficiency in TaxPro-Max for filing Company Income Tax, VAT, and Withholding Tax. You must also be comfortable navigating the LIRS e-tax portals for state-level filings.
Specialized Knowledge Areas:
- Nigerian Tax Law: A deep understanding of the Company Income Tax Act (CITA) and the most recent Finance Acts.
