Lake Chad Peace and Development Initiative – LCPD (formerly Yobe Peace and Community Development Initiative – YOPCODI) is a registered National NGO and Civil Society Organization (CSO) committed to expanding equitable access to quality basic services for crisis-affected and rural communities. Our work is grounded in promoting social justice by protecting the rights and enhancing the well-being of women, children, adolescents, youth, and persons with disabilities across Nigeria and the broader Lake Chad Basin sub-region.

Headquartered in Damaturu, Yobe State, with operational field offices across Northeast and Northwest Nigeria, LCPD’s programmatic experience spans engaging government and community stakeholders to improve service delivery across the Humanitarian, Development, and Peacebuilding (HDP) nexus. Our core intervention areas include Climate Action, Education, Early Recovery and Livelihoods, Governance and Human Rights, Health and Nutrition, Humanitarian Response, Peacebuilding and Countering Violent Extremism, as well as the Protection and Empowerment of Women, Girls and Youth.

Our programs also integrate cross-cutting components such as Gender and Social Inclusion, Advocacy, Humanitarian Coordination, and building equitable and sustainable partnerships. In May 2025, LCPD launched its Five-Year Strategic Plan for Humanitarian, Development, and Peacebuilding Response in Northeast and Northwest Nigeria. LCPD is governed by a credible Board of Trustees with deep knowledge of humanitarian and development dynamics in Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin. The Board is supported by an 11-member Senior Management Team (SMT), led by the Executive Director, providing strong technical direction and oversight. Additionally, LCPD maintains a network of over 350 volunteers across our operational locations, ensuring strong relationships with the people and communities we serve.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Education Officer

Location: Yobe

Role Overview

  • The Education Officer will support education sector programme implementation in the respective LGAs under the guidance of the Project Lead. This includes, but not limited to supporting in the development of the Detailed Implementation Plan, participating in stakeholders’ meetings, and contributing to narrative reporting.
  • The job holder will also be working closely with stakeholders at the local community, school, local government area, and State level.
  • Therefore, under the guidance of the Project Lead and working closely with the project team members, including implementing partners; the Education Officer will ensure that the education activities designed are carried out in a structural and systematic coordinated manner and in line with donor requirements, LCPD’s standards, project agreement and commitments. 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of the Education component for learners and host communities across the respective host communities in line with the project design; 
  • Ensure accurate project documentation, including collection of monitoring data and tracking of progress on output indicators; 
  • Utilize data to contribute to reports as required and support in facilitating relationships with stakeholders/host-communities and community leaders to ensure buy-in and Do No Harm; 
  • Sustain positive working relationships with the implementing partners, government officials and other key stakeholders and work in collaboration with relevant education authorities to support the review of the relevant policies in the state; 
  • Support the Project Lead in overseeing the planning and coordinating of State and LGAs level engagement with education authorities and other key stakeholders including implementing partner(s);
  • Contribute to monitoring and submission of timely and quality reports as per the reporting requirements;
  • Working closely with other staff to ensure quality Programme delivery, documentation and reporting of education activities in the respective hosting communities; 
  • Work closely with relevant staff in developing, implementing, monitoring project detail implementation plan, procurement plan, phased budget, with documentation and reporting for all education interventions in the State; 
  • Recommend technical solutions to speed up the implementation and budget performance of education activities in line with the project proposal, work plan and budget; 
  • Effectively support the education project staff and partners in developing weekly, monthly, quarterly plans, in line with LCPD’s best practices, and ensure compliance with the agreed work plans and that programme objectives and targets are being achieved in line with the project proposal, work plan and budget assiduously; 
  • Maintain high standard of transparency and accountability during programme plan and expedite implementation while ensuring integrity and timeliness of project duration and meeting programme objectives, compliance with donors & LCPD’s policies; 
  • Support in providing regular operations and implementation updates to the Project Coordinator on project progress and challenges to allow for timely interventions and corrective actions systematically and effusively; 
  • Ensure the timely reviews and adjustments for the project operational and implementation plan and budget as may be required from time to time; 
  • Work closely with the Project Lead to ensure that Learning Facilitators or Community Volunteer Teachers (LFs or CVTs) are well guided, supported and their capacity built in community mobilization, GBV prevention and Response, Pedagogy, No Do Haram, advocacy and reporting; 
  • Suggest necessary report revisions and prepare draft reports for corrective actions as it relates to education activities; 
  • Participate in progress review meetings to address key performance issues from the reports. 
  • Ensuring that the programme best practices is represented and given recognition at stakeholder meetings, workshops, donor engagements, networks and any other engagements; 
  • Develop and maintain regular channels of communication with partners, Learning Facilitators/Volunteer Teachers and key stakeholders at all levels (LGA, State and National); 
  • Effectively support in MEAL activities such as mapping exercises, surveys, needs assessments, baseline, midline and endline assessments and evaluation studies, and putting in place a functional activity tracking table;
  • Ensure that the projects’ quality benchmarks for education are adhered to and implemented in project interventions; 
  • Support in collecting and managing complaints and feedback in close coordination with MEAL team and other project Team; 
  • Participate in regular monitoring of projects results, documentation of projects case studies, lessons learnt, significant changes and best practices and coordinating learning and reflection meetings/sessions; 
  • Uphold safeguarding, "Do No Harm", compliance and LCPD’s Code of Conducts;
  • And any other task assigned by the HRM Unit and your Line Manager/Supervisor in line with the core values of LCPD (Integrity, Discipline, Efficiency, Accountability and Sacrifice). 

Key Requirements

  • Certified Teacher (Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria-TRCN, B.Ed Degree holder or Post Graduate Diploma in Education; 
  • Knowledge of any literacy and numeracy boost strategies that improve learners’ effective performance, including Teaching at The Right Level (TaRL), and teachers’ development towards improved quality of education, is an added advantage. 
  • Sound understanding of the safeguarding SOPs, Child Protection Laws and the applicability;
  • Strong leadership and management skills; 
  • Sound understanding of the core humanitarian principles, confidentiality, 5 Ws and its applicability;
  • Experience working in Northeast Nigeria, most preferably on Education in Emergencies Response; 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Google Sheets/Docs, Report Writing (in humanitarian context), Outlook, and Excel; 
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English and Hausa Languages;
  • Ability to multitask, be organized, flexible, adapt, and work well under pressure; 
  • Experience in developing and delivering coaching and training manuals and guidelines to a range of audiences across different agencies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships with partners, donors, and stakeholders within the Nigerian Education Sector;
  • Demonstrated capacity for teaching & coaching, engaging approaches to training, and orientation session delivery.
