Job Summary

  • We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the design, installation, supervision, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems for water infrastructure projects.
  • The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience working on water treatment plants, pumping stations, borehole schemes, transmission systems, or similar facilities. Experience on donor-funded, NGO-sponsored, or government projects is highly desirable.
  • The role requires strong technical expertise in pumps, piping systems, electromechanical equipment, and mechanical installations within water facilities.

Key Responsibilities
Design & Technical Support:

  • Design and review mechanical systems for water treatment plants, pumping stations, and transmission facilities.
  • Prepare and review mechanical layouts, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and BOQs.
  • Support selection and sizing of pumps, valves, pipelines, and related mechanical components.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Nigerian and international standards.

Installation & Supervision:

  • Supervise installation of pumps, motors, pipework, valves, fittings, and treatment equipment.
  • Oversee mechanical alignment, equipment mounting, and system integration.
  • Ensure adherence to approved drawings and manufacturer specifications.
  • Conduct routine site inspections to verify installation quality.

Testing & Commissioning:

  • Participate in testing and commissioning of mechanical equipment.
  • Conduct pump performance testing and system pressure testing.
  • Support commissioning of treatment units and pumping systems.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical faults during startup and operation.

Maintenance & Rehabilitation Support:

  • Develop preventive maintenance schedules for mechanical systems.
  • Provide technical support during rehabilitation and expansion works.
  • Assess performance of aging infrastructure and recommend upgrades.

Compliance & Documentation:

  • Prepare technical reports, commissioning documentation, and as-built drawings.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Support audits and donor compliance reviews where required.

Requirements
Education & Experience:

  • BSc/HND in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering within water infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in pumping stations, water treatment plants, or pipeline systems is required.
  • Experience handling donor-funded, NGO-sponsored, or government projects is an added advantage.

Professional Certification (Compulsory):

  • Registered with COREN (Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria) – Mandatory.
  • Active member of NSE (Nigerian Society of Engineers) – Mandatory.

Technical Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of pumps, valves, pipe systems, and mechanical equipment used in water facilities.
  • Familiarity with P&IDs and mechanical design documentation.
  • Understanding hydraulic principles and system performance.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of relevant Nigerian regulations and international standards.

Personal Attributes:

  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage site responsibilities.
  • Willingness to travel across Nigeria for site supervision.

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to relocate to project locations in Niger State or Plateau State as required.

Salary
N400,000 - N600,000 / Month (Commensurate with experience).
