Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers

Description
- We are currently looking to fill the position of a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with 7 – 15 years’ experience who is specialized in VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) and HVAC systems and will be responsible for the design, planning, and development of efficient climate control systems to join our dynamic team.
- This role requires a deep understanding of mechanical systems, energy efficiency, and coordination with other engineering disciplines. Below is a detailed job profile for this position:
Key Responsibilities
Project Technical Support:
- Provide technical support to project management activities across all phases of projects, including Engineering, Procurement, Construction/Installation, Pre-commissioning, Commissioning, and Handover of project facilities. Facilities include onshore buildings, FPSO/platform oil & gas living quarters, and topside HVAC systems.
- Support installation, inspection, testing, commissioning, and pre-commissioning activities of MEP systems, ensuring compliance with design intent and project specifications.
Design & Engineering (HVAC / VRF / Plumbing):
- Develop detailed designs for VRF and HVAC systems ensuring optimal performance and energy efficiency.
- Perform cooling and heating load calculations, ventilation analysis, heat transfer studies, and airflow design.
- Design smoke control systems, ducting, piping layouts, schematics, isometrics, and airflow diagrams.
- Carry out duct and pipe sizing, pressure drop calculations, and system balancing.
- Use design tools such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP, AutoFLUID, HEVACOMP, HAP (Carrier E20II), TRANE Duct/Pipe Designer, and VRF manufacturer software (LG, Toshiba, Carrier, Daikin).
- System Integration & Coordination.
- Ensure seamless integration of HVAC/VRF systems with electrical, plumbing, fire protection, architectural, and structural systems.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities with consultants, contractors, architects, and project teams.
- Participate in site and client meetings and resolve coordination and technical issues.
Equipment Selection & Engineering:
- Select HVAC and plumbing equipment including chillers, AHUs, VRF systems, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, pressure reducing valves, vessels, boilers, and accessories.
- Specify air outlets, dampers, fire dampers, sound attenuators, scrubbers, and related HVAC components.
- Evaluate equipment based on energy efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and system compatibility.
Sustainability & Energy Efficiency:
- Design energy-efficient HVAC systems aligned with ASHRAE, LEED, and other international energy standards.
- Conduct energy modeling and simulations to optimize system performance and reduce carbon footprint.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and sustainability standards.
Documentation, Specifications & Compliance:
- Prepare design drawings (design, construction, and as-built), specifications, datasheets, BOQ/MTO, and material requisitions.
- Develop Scope of Work (SOW), technical queries, method statements, and project proposals.
- Issue and develop company design general specifications (DGS), standards, procedures, and guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards including ASHRAE, CIBSE, BSI, ANSI, API, NFPA, ISO, SMACNA, ASME, ASTM, IPC, IMC, ASPE, MSS, BSRIA, BREEAM, LEED, ATEX, SOLAS, CDM, and relevant local building regulations.
Construction, Installation & Supervision:
- Supervise HVAC, plumbing, piping, and MEP construction works, ensuring quality, cost, and schedule adherence.
- Oversee subcontractors and monitor site progress and material delivery.
- Perform QA/QC inspections of HVAC and piping installations.
- Supervise piping systems including PE, PPR, CU, UPVC, CPVC, CS, and multilayer pipe works.
- Supervise electrical MV/LV/HV power and lighting installations.
- Ensure works are executed according to approved shop drawings and specifications.
Project Management Support:
- Support project teams through all phases of execution from design to handover.
- Prepare project schedules, budgets, valuations, manpower estimates, tender evaluations, change orders, and progress reports.
- Review ITB documents, vendor offers, and technical-commercial proposals.
- Manage project documentation including O&M manuals and certification processes.
Engineering Review & Specialized Systems:
- Review and design HVAC, plumbing, firefighting, sewage and water treatment systems.
- Design fountain systems, swimming pools, gas/oil-fired boilers, and irrigation systems.
- Review fire protection and smoke control systems.
- Participate in HAZOP/HAZID studies for risk assessment and safety compliance.
Team Leadership:
- Supervise junior engineers and AutoCAD designers.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering deliverables.
Qualifications
- Interested candidates should possess an HND / Bachelor’s Degree with 7 - 15 years experience.
Computer & Design Software Skills
- AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP, AutoFLUID
- HEVACOMP
- Carrier HAP (E20 II)

Salary
N500,000 - N800,000 monthly.
