Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an International, Private, Non-Governmental, Non-Profit Humanitarian Organization. Our organisation offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters, to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. We have been working in Nigeria facilitated by a Memorandum of Understanding between Medecins Sans Frontieres and the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The French Section are at present co-operating with the Federal Ministry of Health, and State and Local government departments of health on various health projects. Our current focus is the VVF/Emergency Obstetrics Project in Jigawa State, the Provision of Primary Health Care in Borno State, and the Nutrition Project in Katsina State with coordination office in Abuja, Nigeria.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Community Health Educator

Location: Jahun, Jigawa
Employment Type: Contract

Responsibilities

  • Deliver health education and awareness sessions on hygiene, disease prevention, nutrition, and available health services to patients, caregivers, and communities.
  • Ensure patients, caregivers, blood donors, and visitors are properly oriented on CEmONC services, hospital regulations, patient rights, and safeguarding information.
  • Conduct regular monitoring of community health and living conditions, including nutritional screening, vaccination follow‑up, population movement, and identification of medical or social risks.
  • Identify individuals with medical needs and coordinate timely referrals with the medical team, reporting issues to the line manager as required.
  • Provide targeted health education messages across CEmONC units (ANC, PNC, wards, laboratory waiting areas), aligned with medical objectives.
  • Collect patient and caregiver feedback and report gaps related to hygiene facilities, water, sanitation, and patient experience.
  • Support patient experience activities, including surveys, exit interviews, IPC awareness, and compliance messaging.
  • Liaise with medical teams to support patients and caregivers with consent processes, communication, blood donation/replacement, and culturally appropriate practices.
  • Ensure culturally appropriate tools and local languages are used for effective communication and health education.
  • Collect, compile, and report daily data and indicators to the HPCE Supervisor.
  • Support food demonstrations and provide basic nutrition education for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers.
