Job Title: Fine Art Teacher

Location: Area 1 Garki, Abuja (FCT)

Job Summary

  • A Fine Art Teacher for secondary education (typically grades 9-12 or ages 11-18) isresponsible for instructing students in visual arts techniques, art history, and art theory, fostering creativity, and guiding students in developing their artistic portfolios.
  • They work in classrooms or studios, delivering curriculum that prepares students for both creative expression and potential national examinations, such as IGCSE/GCSE, A Level, or AP art courses.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development & Lesson Planning: Design and implement comprehensive art curricula that meet educational standards, covering mediums like painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography, and digital art.
  • Instruction & Demonstration: Lead classroom sessions and demonstrations on art techniques, artistic processes, and art theory.
  • Student Assessment:Assess student progress through assignments, projects, sketchbooks, and portfolios, providing constructive feedback and assigning grades.
  • Classroom & Materials Management: Maintain a safe, organized, and stimulating studio environment, managing inventory of art materials (paint, clay, tools) and replenishing them within budget constraints.
  • Portfolio Preparation & Exhibition: Assist students in compiling portfolios for university applications and organize school exhibitions to showcase student work.
  • Pastoral Care & Safety: Maintain student discipline and foster a supportive environment that Encourages creativity, adhering to all child protection and safeguarding policies.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts (BFA), Art Education, or a related field is typically required, often paired with a teacher qualification/credential (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or state licensure).
  • Experience: Previous experience teaching art, particularly at the secondary level, is usually preferred.
  • Artistic Talent & Knowledge: A deep understanding of artistic techniques, art history, and modern artistic trends.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively teach techniques and liaise with parents and colleagues.
  • Technology Proficiency: Ability to utilize classroom technology, including digital design software.

  • The main purpose is to foster high standards in student academic progress, encourage creativity, and help students develop their unique artistic voice while preparing them for future artistic studies or careers.
