Job Title: Technical Drawing Teacher

Location: Area 1, Garki - Abuja (FCT) 
Employment Type: Full-time

Description

  • A Technical Drawing Teacher for secondary education educates students on the principles, techniques, and standards of engineering graphics and drafting, both manual and computer-aided (CAD).
  • They prepare students for technical examinations (such as WAEC, NECO, IGCSE/GCSE) and future careers in engineering, architecture, and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development & Instruction: Plan and deliver lessons on geometric construction, orthographic projections, isometric drawing, and dimensioning standards.
  • Practical Training: Instruct students on the proper use of drafting tools (T-squares, set squares, compasses) and CAD software like AutoCAD or SketchUp.
  • Assessment & Evaluation: Grade assignments, tests, and practical projects, providing constructive feedback to monitor student progress.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, orderly, and stimulating environment, ensuring adherence to health and safety standards in workshop settings.
  • Resource Management: Maintain drawing tools, workshop equipment, and teaching materials.
  • Student Support: Foster student interest through engaging projects, personalized instruction, and preparing them for technical competitions.

Key Skills & Requirements

  • Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Technical Drawing, Engineering, Architecture, or Technical Education; a PGDE or teaching certification is often required.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of manual drafting and CAD software.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills for explaining complex spatial concepts to students.
  • Experience: Previous teaching experience (typically 1–5 years) in a secondary setting.
  • Passion for Technical Education: Ability to motivate students in STEM-related subjects.

Typical Daily Activities:

  • Conducting drawing demonstrations for the class.
  • Reviewing and critiquing student blueprints and sketches.
  • Checking student notes to ensure they are updated.
  • Collaborating with other staff members for interdisciplinary projects.
