We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Credit Officer

Location: Ikeja, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The Credit Officer is responsible for evaluating and managing credit facilities related to vehicle sales, financing, and leasing transactions.
  • The role ensures effective credit risk assessment, timely collections, and compliance with company credit policies while supporting automobile sales growth through structured credit solutions.

Key Responsibilities
Credit Evaluation & Processing:

  • Assess credit applications for vehicle financing, hire purchase, or installment sales.
  • Analyze customer financial records, income statements, bank statements, and credit history.
  • Conduct background verification and credit checks on individual and corporate customers.
  • Recommend credit approvals, limits, and payment structures based on risk assessment.
  • Ensure all documentation required for vehicle financing is complete and compliant.

Automobile Credit Administration:

  • Manage credit accounts relating to vehicle purchases and fleet financing.
  • Verify collateral documentation including vehicle ownership records and insurance coverage.
  • Ensure proper documentation of loan agreements, guarantor forms, and repayment schedules.
  • Maintain accurate customer credit files and transaction records.

Accounts Receivable & Collections:

  • Monitor repayment schedules for financed vehicles.
  • Follow up on overdue vehicle payments through calls, reminders, and customer visits.
  • Work closely with sales and operations teams to resolve payment issues.
  • Initiate recovery actions for defaulting customers including repossession processes where necessary.

Risk Management:

  • Monitor customer exposure levels and enforce approved credit limits.
  • Identify early warning signs of default and recommend corrective actions.
  • Reduce bad debt exposure through proactive monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with company credit policy and regulatory requirements.

Collaboration:

  • Liaise with Sales Team to structure customer-friendly but secure financing arrangements.
  • Work with legal and recovery teams on delinquent accounts.
  • Support dealership network and field teams on credit-related matters.

Reporting:

  • Prepare credit performance reports and debtor aging analysis.
  • Track loan portfolio performance and default trends.
  • Provide periodic management reports on credit risk and collections.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Loan repayment performance
  • Reduction in overdue vehicle accounts
  • Days Sales Outstanding (DSO)
  • Default rate / Non-performing accounts
  • Collection efficiency ratio

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or related field.
  • Experience with vehicle financing, leasing, or hire purchase arrangements.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong credit risk assessment skills
  • Knowledge of automobile financing structures
  • Financial analysis and loan evaluation
  • Debt recovery and negotiation skills
  • Understanding of vehicle documentation and collateral management
  • Excellent communication and customer relationship skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems
