The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable to malnutrition.

Job Title: Grants and Compliance Manager

About the role

  • GAIN is seeking to recruit a Grants and Compliance Manager to provide internal advisory support to the country programme with a focus on programme, partners, operations, donor reporting and relations, grant compliance oversight, and management compliance audits.
  • The candidate will be responsible for establishing and implementing systems for overall grants management, coordination, and compliance.
  • They will provide technical oversight and advice to the state-level grants focal staff who will be responsible for the day-to-day management of grants to partners, community-based organizations (CBOs).
  • This role will be offered on two (2) years fixed term contract, subject to securing the award and availability of funding, and will be based in Abuja. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing program and operations teams with general grants management support, advising on donor compliance and GAIN regulations, and ensuring grant deliverables are achieved on time.
  • Liaise with the finance department to monitor GAIN Nigeria and partner budgets and spending.
  • Develop and maintain processes and procedures for robust grant management.
  • Ensure internal grants and general compliance tracking systems and associated processes meet GAIN and donor standards.
  • Interpret donor regulations to the GAIN Nigeria program team, local partners and CBOs/subgrantees.
  • Provide ongoing technical advisory support to improve compliance practices across departments.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of reporting templates according to donor requirements and the preparation of the grant reporting schedule management.
  • Engage and manage donor relationships, including supporting donor visibility and representation.
  • Oversee operational risk monitoring and management, including risk mapping, defining and implementing action plans, risk management, and incident management systems, ensuring corrective and preventive actions.
  • Manage the subaward relationships between GAIN Nigeria and its subrecipients.
  • Interpret all subawards to ensure compliance with donor policies within legal and statutory requirements and prepare monthly summary reports.
  • Implement the organization’s subaward management system for selection, approvals, awarding, monitoring and closing program subawards, including designing and providing templates for expressions of interest, request for applications, and selection evaluation tools. 

About you

  • The ideal candidate will lead the effective management of donor-funded programs, ensure full compliance, and drive innovation and continuous improvement.
  • The candidate will bring strong grant management expertise, with the ability to identify risks, anticipate challenges, and develop practical, forward-thinking solutions.
  • Experience managing the Subaward relationships between an organisation and its subrecipients is required, combined with the ability to build their capacity for effective grant management.
  • You will demonstrate clear, structured thinking, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to problem-solving, with a keen ability to assess how decisions impact broader organizational priorities. 
  • Strong experience in grants and compliance management within an international organization is preferred.
  • Experience managing funding from major donors such as the Mastercard Foundation (MCF), European Commission (including ECHO, GFFO, SIDA, SV), Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is highly desirable.

About our offer
The starting gross salary on offer for this role is from NGN 19,666,488 gross per annum, depending on experience.
