Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an International, Private, Non-Governmental, Non-Profit Humanitarian Organization. Our organisation offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters, to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. We have been working in Nigeria facilitated by a Memorandum of Understanding between Medecins Sans Frontieres and the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The French Section are at present co-operating with the Federal Ministry of Health, and State and Local government departments of health on various health projects. Our current focus is the VVF/Emergency Obstetrics Project in Jigawa State, the Provision of Primary Health Care in Borno State, and the Nutrition Project in Katsina State with coordination office in Abuja, Nigeria.

The French Section of Médecins Sans Frontières is currently recruiting:

Job Title: Waste Area Technician

Location: Jahun project, Jigawa State
Contract: 208 working hours per month.
Start Date: 22nd March 2026
End Date: 29th March 2026

Main Purpose

  • Performing autonomously, specific complex / advanced installation, maintenance works and repairs depending on the technician’s specialization (requiring special/qualifications/training), according to the supervisor’s instructions and MSF standards and procedures, in order to ensure a proper functioning and maintenance of MSF equipment, installations and infrastructures.

Accountabilities

  • Ensure the safe reception, segregation, handling, and disposal of waste in accordance with MSF waste management protocols.
  • Carry out first‑level repairs, as well as preventive and corrective maintenance of waste‑area infrastructure, equipment, and tools.
  • Maintain the safety and functionality of waste‑area facilities, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Monitor and manage tools, equipment, and consumables in the waste area, including stock control, stock cards, and regular inventories to avoid shortages.
  • Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times during waste‑handling activities.
  • Keep the waste area and workspaces clean, organized, and secure at all times.
  • Complete and maintain accurate records, logbooks, and reports related to waste management, maintenance, and incidents.
  • Immediately report any incidents, damages, losses, safety risks, or irregularities to the line manager.
  • Work in close collaboration with WATSAN, logistics, and other technical staff, and support or supervise workers when required.
  • Monitor waste‑management activities and supplies to ensure continuous, safe operations within the project.

Requirements
Education

  • Essential: High School or technical certificate.

Experience

  • Essential: Previous Position with follow-up and application of procedures
  • Desirable: Experience in waste management.

Knowledge
Competencies:

  • Essential: project working language (English), Desirable: Hausa
  • Computer skills and repair skills (manual skills, thoroughness, method) are desirable
  • Commitment to MSF Principles L1
  • Behavioural Flexibility L1, Stress Management L, Results and Quality Orientation L2, Team-work and Cooperation L1, Service Orientation L1.

Remuneration
According to MSF salary scale, plus 13th month allowance equivalent to 1 month of gross salary.
