Job Title: Mid-Level Accountant

Job Summary

• We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically sound Mid-Level Accountant with experience in cross-border payments, Payment Service Providers (PSPs), and payment gateways.
• The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing financial records related to payment flows, ensuring accurate reconciliation across multiple platforms, and maintaining compliance with financial and regulatory standards in a fast-paced fintech or digital payments environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and reconcile high-volume transactions across multiple payment gateways and PSP platforms
• Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations of payment inflows and outflows (local and international)
• Monitor and account for cross-border transactions, including FX conversions, settlement cycles, and fees
• Ensure accurate recording of merchant settlements, chargebacks, refunds, and transaction fees
• Liaise with banks, PSPs, and payment processors to resolve discrepancies and settlement issues
• Prepare financial reports and schedules related to payment operations and transaction flows
• Maintain the general ledger, including journal entries for payment activities and FX adjustments
• Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring completeness of all payment-related entries
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (CBN guidelines, AML/CFT policies, IFRS standards)
• Assist in audit processes, providing required documentation and explanations for payment transactions
• Track and analyze transaction trends, fees, and variances to support business decisions
• Maintain proper documentation and audit trails for all payment-related activities
• Collaborate with product, operations, and tech teams to improve payment processes and controls

Key Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
• 3years experience in accounting, preferably within fintech, payments, or financial services
• Hands-on experience with:
  • Payment gateways (e.g., Flutterwave, Paystack, Stripe)
  • PSPs and switching platforms
  • Cross-border payment systems and FX accounting
• Strong understanding of:
  • Settlement cycles and reconciliation processes
  • Chargebacks, refunds, and transaction lifecycle
• Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA) or in progress is an advantage
• Proficiency in Excel (advanced) and accounting systems (e.g., Sage, SAP, QuickBooks)
