Job Title: Senior Project Engineer
Location: Oregun Ikeja, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports to: Project Manager / Head of Projects
Job Summary
- The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing construction projects from inception to completion.
- The role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards. The position also provides technical leadership and supervises project teams on-site.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution:
- Lead project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Develop and review project scope, drawings, and specifications.
- Ensure alignment with project timelines, budgets, and client requirements.
- Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions when necessary.
Technical Oversight:
- Provide technical guidance on civil, structural, or MEP works.
- Review engineering designs, calculations, and construction methodologies.
- Ensure all works meet required engineering standards and specifications.
Site Management:
- Supervise site engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors.
- Ensure efficient utilization of labor, materials, and equipment.
- Conduct regular site inspections and progress evaluations.
Cost Control & Budget Management:
- Monitor project costs and ensure adherence to approved budgets.
- Support procurement in material selection and cost optimization.
- Review and certify contractor and supplier invoices.
Health, Safety & Compliance (HSE):
- Enforce strict compliance with HSE policies and procedures.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure safe work practices.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations and company standards.
Stakeholder Management:
- Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
- Attend project meetings and provide technical updates.
- Manage expectations and resolve project-related issues.
Reporting & Documentation:
- Prepare and submit periodic project reports (daily, weekly, monthly).
- Maintain accurate documentation including drawings, RFIs, and approvals.
- Track project milestones and deliverables.
Quality Assurance & Control:
- Ensure all construction works meet quality standards.
- Implement QA/QC procedures and conduct inspections/tests.
- Address defects and ensure timely rectification.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Project delivery within schedule and budget
- Compliance with HSE and quality standards
- Reduction in project delays and cost overruns
- Stakeholder satisfaction
- Accuracy and timeliness of reporting
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 7–10 years’ experience in construction/project engineering
- Professional certification (e.g., COREN, PMP) is an advantage
- Strong knowledge of construction processes (Civil/MEP)
- Proficiency in project management tools and software (e.g., MS Project, AutoCAD)
