We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Matron

Location: Benin City, Edo
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The Matron is a senior nursing leader responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality patient care across assigned units or the entire hospital.
  • The role ensures clinical excellence, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and effective management of nursing personnel.
  • The matron promotes a culture of patient safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Patient Care:

  • Provide strategic leadership for nursing services and patient care delivery
  • Ensure adherence to clinical standards, protocols, and best practices
  • Monitor and improve patient outcomes, safety, and satisfaction
  • Lead quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Staff Management & Development:

  • Supervise, mentor, and support nursing staff and ward managers
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and retention of nursing personnel
  • Conduct performance appraisals and competency assessments
  • Identify training needs and coordinate continuous professional development

Operational Management:

  • Oversee daily nursing operations across departments
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels and appropriate skill mix
  • Manage resource allocation, including equipment and supplies
  • Collaborate with other departments for efficient service delivery

Policy Implementation & Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, policies, and standards
  • Develop and implement nursing policies and procedures
  • Lead audits, inspections, and accreditation processes
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting systems

Quality Assurance & Risk Management:

  • Monitor incidents, complaints, and clinical risks
  • Implement corrective actions and preventive measures
  • Promote infection prevention and control standards
  • Ensure adherence to ethical and legal standards in patient care

Financial & Administrative Oversight:

  • Assist in budgeting and cost control for nursing services
  • Optimize use of resources to reduce waste and improve efficiency
  • Prepare reports on nursing performance and operational metrics

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with valid practicing license
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (Master’s in Nursing, Healthcare Management, or related field preferred). Acceptance can be considered for non-degree nurses, but they must have 8 to 12 years of experience or even more, preferably.
  • Minimum of 8–12 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations, quality standards, and patient safety practices
