Job Title: Legal Counsel

Location: Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The Legal Counsel will provide legal advisory services to the organization, ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, manage contracts, and mitigate legal risks.
  • The role supports management by offering sound legal guidance on business operations, corporate governance, and regulatory matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide timely legal advice to management and departments on operational, commercial, and regulatory matters.
  • Ensure the organization complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations and advise management on their impact.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage contracts, agreements, MOUs, SLAs, and other legal documents.
  • Ensure contracts protect the organization’s interests and align with internal policies.
  • Maintain an organized contract database and track contract renewals and obligations.
  • Identify potential legal risks and propose practical mitigation strategies.
  • Support dispute resolution, claims management, and legal negotiations when required.
  • Liaise with external legal advisers, regulators, and government agencies as needed.
  • Support the implementation of corporate governance frameworks and internal policies.
  • Advise on board, management, and shareholder matters where applicable.
  • Assist with documentation for management meetings, resolutions, and regulatory filings.
  • Prepare legal opinions, reports, and briefs for management decision-making.
  • Keep proper records of legal documents, cases, and compliance filings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B); BL qualification and call to the Nigerian Bar required.
  • 3–5 years post-call experience (in-house or law firm experience preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of corporate, commercial, and employment law.
  • Excellent drafting and contract negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity.
  • Ability to communicate legal issues clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
