Job Title: Legal Counsel

Job Summary
- The Legal Counsel will provide legal advisory services to the organization, ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, manage contracts, and mitigate legal risks.
- The role supports management by offering sound legal guidance on business operations, corporate governance, and regulatory matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide timely legal advice to management and departments on operational, commercial, and regulatory matters.
- Ensure the organization complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations and advise management on their impact.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage contracts, agreements, MOUs, SLAs, and other legal documents.
- Ensure contracts protect the organization’s interests and align with internal policies.
- Maintain an organized contract database and track contract renewals and obligations.
- Identify potential legal risks and propose practical mitigation strategies.
- Support dispute resolution, claims management, and legal negotiations when required.
- Liaise with external legal advisers, regulators, and government agencies as needed.
- Support the implementation of corporate governance frameworks and internal policies.
- Advise on board, management, and shareholder matters where applicable.
- Assist with documentation for management meetings, resolutions, and regulatory filings.
- Prepare legal opinions, reports, and briefs for management decision-making.
- Keep proper records of legal documents, cases, and compliance filings.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B); BL qualification and call to the Nigerian Bar required.
- 3–5 years post-call experience (in-house or law firm experience preferred).
- Strong knowledge of corporate, commercial, and employment law.
- Excellent drafting and contract negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity.
- Ability to communicate legal issues clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
