We are recruiting to fill the position below:

About the role

  • Reporting in to the Project Manager, the Programme Officer (PO) supports the field-level implementation of the ECHO-funded Goyon Baya Response Project, with a primary technical focus on WaSH and operational support to MPCA delivery.
  • The role is central to operationalising the Rapid Response and Referral Mechanism (RRRM), enabling timely identification, targeting, and assistance of shock-affected populations across Ngala (Borno State) and Mashi (Katsina State).
  • In addtion, Protection is mainstreamed across all activities, ensuring safe, inclusive, and accountable delivery.

Some of the main areas of responsibilities of the Programme Officer include:

  • Support implementation of MPCA activities, including beneficiary communication, targeting, registration, distributions, and post distribution follow up.
  • Lead implementation of WaSH interventions, including water point rehabilitation, solar-powered systems, operation & maintenance (O&M), and hygiene promotion activities
  • Support RRRM activation at field level, including rapid needs assessments, beneficiary prioritisation, and coordination of immediate response actions
  • Support coordination with Financial Service Providers (FSPs) for digital cash delivery.
  • Work closely with local partner, SHI, field teams and community structures to ensure inclusive and safe delivery. 
  • Facilitate community sensitisation, feedback, and complaints mechanisms.
  • Ensure protection mainstreaming across MPCA and WaSH activities, including safe access, inclusion, and referral pathways
  • Facilitate referrals to protection, health, nutrition, and other essential services through established referral networks
  • Support baseline surveys, PDMs, routine monitoring, and market price data collection.
  • Maintain accurate activity records, distribution lists, attendance sheets, and other means of verification.
  • Support digital data collection and registration using tools such as KoboToolbox/ODK and mobile money systems for cash delivery
  • Monitor functionality and use of WaSH facilities and report technical or access challenges promptly.
  • Contribute to weekly and monthly progress reports.
  • Uphold safeguarding, PSEA, and data protection standards at field level.
  • Ensure activities comply with Christian Aid policies, donor requirements, and security procedures.
  • Participate in LGA level coordination meetings and liaise with local authorities and community leaders. Represent Christian Aid’s MPCA and WaSH programming in relevant cluster and coordination meetings.
  • Promptly report security incidents, access constraints, or operational risks.
  • Provide timely field intelligence to support adaptive management decisions.
  • Ensure WaSH activities meet minimum technical standards and are appropriately integrated with MPCA and RRRM objectives.
  • Support alignment with cluster standards and avoid duplication of assistance.    

Who we are looking for
Essential:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Development, Public Health, or related fields
  • 4 - 5 years’ experience in humanitarian programme implementation, with field-level experience in NE or NW Nigeria strongly preferred.
  • Strong technical experience in WaSH programming (water systems, hygiene promotion, O&M)
  • Experience supporting rapid response or emergency mechanisms
  • Practical experience in cash programming, , and Protection activities.
  • Experience using digital data collection tools and/or mobile money systems.]
  • Strong community engagement and field monitoring skills.
  • Ability to work in insecure and remote environments.

Desirable:

  • Experience in Borno and/or Katsina States, including Ngala or similar high-risk LGAs.
  • Knowledge of coordination mechanisms (clusters, SEMA Borno/Katsina) and rediness to be based in Kastina
  • Experience with referral systems (protection, health, nutrition, etc.) in Katsina and Borno.
  • Knowledge of Hausa.

Salary
£18,164.05 per year.
