Benek Engineering Company Limited (BECL) is an indigenous onshore and offshore engineering contracting company headquartered in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, with an overseas office in Houston, Texas. Incorporated in 1984, BECL provides highly skilled project management, maintenance, and construction services to the Oil and Gas industry. Our services include pipeline construction, wellhead supply/installation/maintenance, plant installation, inspection services, non-destructive testing (NDT), heavy duty equipment maintenance, shutdown and turnaround management, slickline and e-line services, and pressure control. BECL serves major IOCs including Shell, AGIP, Chevron, NNPC, Total, ExxonMobil/SEPLAT, and Addax. We are a corporate member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Nigerian Corrosion Association (NICA), Nigerian Institute of Welding (NIW), Oil & Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN), and the American Welding Society (AWS). BECL is also an authorised distributor of XCMG cranes and forklifts.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Legal Officer

Reference: BECL/2026/LO-012
Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers State (with deployment to field locations including Bonny, Brass, Forcados, and onshore flow stations across the Niger Delta)
Employment Type: Full-time

Role Summary

  • Provide legal advisory services, contract management, and regulatory compliance support to the company.
  • Handle litigation, dispute resolution, and ensure BECL interests are protected in all commercial and operational engagements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including service agreements, subcontracts, NDAs, JV agreements, and procurement contracts.
  • Provide legal advice on oil and gas operations, land/right-of-way matters, and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage litigation and dispute resolution (arbitration and mediation) on behalf of the company.
  • Ensure compliance with the Nigerian Content Development Act, Labour Act, and other industry-specific regulations.
  • Maintain a register of all company contracts and track renewal and expiry dates.
  • Support the Company Secretary on corporate governance and statutory compliance matters.
  • Liaise with external counsel, courts, regulatory agencies, and host communities.
  • Advise on insurance, indemnities, and risk mitigation in commercial contracts.

Minimum Requirements

  • LL.B and BL (called to the Nigerian Bar).
  • Minimum of five (5) years post-call experience, preferably in oil and gas, engineering, or construction law.
  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Working knowledge of the Nigerian Content Act, Labour Act, and petroleum industry regulations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Completion of NYSC (mandatory).

Added Advantage:

  • LL.M in Oil and Gas Law, Commercial Law, or a related specialization.
  • Experience handling host community relations and land acquisition in the Niger Delta.
  • Familiarity with FIDIC and other international engineering contract forms.
