Job Summary
- Our Client is seeking an Instrument Engineer to ensure the efficient functioning of refinery instrumentation systems supporting operational, HSE, and cost objectives.
- This role is within the oil and gas sector, focusing on instrumentation maintenance and control in refinery operations.
- The Instrument Engineer will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, calibrations, diagnostic testing, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems.
- They will also develop maintenance plans, optimize equipment efficiency, and ensure compliance with safety instrumented functions and statutory regulations.

Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, calibrations, and diagnostic tests on refinery instrumentation systems to ensure optimal performance and operational efficiency.
- Monitor daily performance of installed instruments and promptly address any deviations or malfunctions.
- Assist the lead Instrument/Electronic Engineer in executing instrumentation maintenance tasks and projects.
- Install, configure, and conduct diagnostic testing on transmitters and final control elements to maintain system integrity.
- Develop, implement, and continuously optimize comprehensive maintenance plans aligned with operational and safety standards.
- Troubleshoot and repair instrumentation and control system malfunctions, ensuring minimal downtime and compliance with safety protocols.
- Document all maintenance activities, service records, and safe work procedures in accordance with statutory regulations and company policies.
- Optimize system efficiency by adjusting control valves, transmitters, and switch settings through precise tuning and calibration.
- Ensure the correct operation and reliability of safety instrumented functions (SIF) by adhering to the cause-and-effect matrix.
- Collaborate effectively with maintenance units, refinery departments, HSSE teams, and external contractors to support seamless operations and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Electronics Engineering.
- 8-10 years of professional experience in instrumentation engineering within refinery operations or related sectors such as oil and gas.
- Comprehensive knowledge of electronic, instrumentation, control, and electrical performance standards applicable to refinery or industrial environments.
- Proven expertise in the design, installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of instrumentation and control systems.
- Proficiency in using design and diagnostic testing software relevant to instrumentation engineering.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex instrumentation and control malfunctions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively within diverse teams and liaising with internal departments and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work under pressure, demonstrate adaptability, and maintain a high level of commitment, including willingness to perform maintenance and repairs outside regular business hours.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary maintenance environment supporting refinery or industrial operations.
- Demonstrated innovative thinking and negotiation skills to optimize instrumentation system performance and maintenance processes.
- Result-oriented mindset with a proven track record of delivering timely and accurate maintenance and calibration activities in compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with safety instrumented functions (SIF) and cause-and-effect matrix to ensure operational safety and compliance.
