Job Title: Petrophysicist
Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Supervisory Level: Individual Contributor
Job Purpose
- The Petrophysicist will work within a dynamic, high‑performing, multi‑disciplinary team, providing technical expertise across one of the following areas, depending on either role assignment.
Studies:
- Provide petrophysical expertise to support the maturation of exploration discoveries, appraisal planning, and Field Development and Redevelopment Planning, thereby enabling the delivery of the company’s growth ambitions.
Operations:
- Provide a broad range of petrophysical support for work programmes aimed at sustaining and growing Renaissance production, through the execution of rig workovers and new drilling activities, working closely with Asset Execution and Subsurface Interface teams.
Responsibilities
For a Studies Petrophysicist:
- Provide petrophysical input into feasibility studies and Field Development Planning (FDP) activities.
- Identify and evaluate new development opportunities across Renaissance assets, including deeper objectives and emerging plays.
- Update reservoir models as new petrophysical and well data become available.
- Support resource estimation, classification, and reporting activities.
- Contribute to the implementation of new technologies, processes, guidelines, and standards relevant to Petrophysics.
- Oversee and ensure effective quality control and stewardship of petrophysical data within the corporate database.
- Ensure that petrophysical uncertainties impacting static and dynamic reservoir models are robustly assessed and appropriately managed.
For an Operations Petrophysicist:
- Provide petrophysical input into well delivery activities and the maturation of other opportunities, including well proposals, WRFM, and resource volume management.
- Ensure that petrophysical data across the Asset are properly managed, quality‑assured, and archived in line with data management guidelines.
- Update reservoir models when critical new petrophysical data become available.
- Perform compaction, subsidence, and top‑seal limit predictions to support well design, completion, production, and injection well abandonment/intervention activities.
- Provide petrophysical input into well abandonment and intervention specifications, including PP sections such as zone evaluations, PPFG, temperature, and cement evaluation.
- Ensure comprehensive evaluation of open‑hole and cased‑hole data, integrating outputs with Well Delivery and Asset Integrated Subsurface Teams.
- Define and plan core and log data acquisition and analysis programmes, including real‑time drilling surveillance, PPFG monitoring, and wellsite logging and coring supervision.
- Support resource estimates and revisions, ensuring timely tracking and reporting of changes through trigger logs and relevant reports.
- Ensure that petrophysical uncertainties affecting static and dynamic reservoir models are clearly understood, quantified, and managed.
Job Dimensions
- The scope involves working on working on complex integrated projects/evaluations.
- Operations team size typically ranges from 5–7 staff, drawn from an overall Asset Execution workforce of approximately 25–30 personnel.
- Renaissance has an active Petrophysics community of around 15 professionals, providing strong opportunities for knowledge sharing and cross‑learning.
- Associated investment levels range from small‑scale projects to large integrated developments of USD 100 million and above, with total development CAPEX running into several billion USD.
Requirements
- Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Geophysics or a related discipline with at least 9 years relevant work experience in Petrophysics.
- Demonstrated expertise across the following areas:
- Petrophysical Data Acquisition & Management
- Reservoir Characterization & Integrated Petrophysical (PP) reviews
- Wells and Reservoir Surveillance
- Quantitative Interpretation (QI) Petrophysics
- Petrophysical (PP) Model Integration & Decision Management
- Geomechanical Data Collection & Interpretation
- Experience in Special Core Analysis (SCAL), Geomechanics and/or Quantitative Interpretation would be an added advantage.
The successful candidate should demonstrate:
- Strong understanding of Subsurface HSE Critical Uncertainties and Design Engineering Practices (DEPs) as they relate to Field Development Planning (FDP) and Well Proposal delivery.
- Skilled‑level competence in communication, technical reporting, and collaborative teamwork.
- Proven interpersonal, influencing, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate effectively across disciplines.
