Job Purpose
- The Land Surveyor is responsible for carrying out land and engineering surveys to support construction activities, ensuring accurate measurements, positioning, mapping, and setting out of works in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Surveying & Setting Out:
- Conduct topographical, boundary, and construction surveys on project sites.
- Carry out setting out of buildings, roads, pipelines, structures, and other construction works.
- Establish control points, benchmarks, and reference systems.
- Verify coordinates, levels, and dimensions before commencement of work.
Data Collection & Measurement:
- Operate and maintain surveying equipment such as Total Stations, GPS, Levels, and Drones where applicable.
- Collect accurate field data and measurements for project execution.
- Perform site measurements and prepare survey calculations.
Drawings & Documentation:
- Interpret engineering drawings, site plans, and specifications.
- Prepare survey reports, maps, sketches, and as-built drawings.
- Maintain proper documentation of survey records and site data.
Quality Control & Compliance:
- Ensure all survey activities comply with project specifications and approved standards.
- Verify construction works align with approved coordinates and elevations.
- Identify and report discrepancies in drawings or site conditions.
Coordination & Communication:
- Liaise with engineers, architects, contractors, and project teams on survey requirements.
- Support construction teams with accurate positioning and layout information.
- Attend site meetings where required.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):
- Comply with all HSE policies and site safety procedures.
- Ensure safe handling and operation of survey equipment.
- Identify site hazards and report unsafe conditions.
Equipment Management:
- Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of survey instruments.
- Safeguard survey tools and equipment from damage or loss.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Qualifications & Requirements
- HND/B.Sc. in Surveying & Geoinformatics, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related discipline
- Minimum of 3–5 years relevant experience in construction or engineering projects
- Proficiency in the use of Total Station, GPS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other survey software
- Strong understanding of construction drawings and survey calculations
- Good analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of HSE practices and construction standards
