Job Title: Accountant (Events Company) 

Location: Lagos (Remote)

Job Summary

  • The Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial operations of the company, including event budgeting, financial reporting, payroll administration, vendor payments, reconciliations, and tax compliance.
  • The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple event accounts and financial transactions remotely while supporting overall business profitability and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Accounting:

  • Manage daily accounting operations, including income tracking, expense recording, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for all company and event-related transactions.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.
  • Monitor cash flow and ensure proper allocation of funds across projects and operational activities.
  • Conduct bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly.

Event Budgeting & Cost Control:

  • Prepare and manage event budgets in collaboration with the operations and event teams.
  • Track actual event expenses against approved budgets and provide variance analysis.
  • Monitor profitability of events and provide financial insights to support decision-making.
  • Ensure all event-related expenses are properly documented and approved.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and improved financial efficiency.

Payroll & Staff Payments:

  • Manage payroll processing for permanent and temporary/event staff.
  • Ensure accurate computation of salaries, allowances, overtime, and statutory deductions.
  • Process payroll within approved timelines and maintain payroll records.
  • Handle payroll-related inquiries and resolve discrepancies professionally.

Vendor & Payment Management:

  • Manage vendor invoices, payment schedules, and reconciliations.
  • Verify invoices against approved quotations, contracts, and event budgets.
  • Ensure timely payments to vendors and service providers.
  • Maintain proper documentation of all financial transactions and approvals.

Tax & Regulatory Compliance:

  • Prepare and file statutory deductions and tax obligations including VAT, PAYE, and Withholding Tax.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards, and company policies.
  • Support audit processes and provide required financial documentation when necessary.
  • Stay updated on relevant tax laws and financial regulations.

Reporting & Administrative Support:

  • Prepare financial schedules, payment trackers, and management reports.
  • Maintain organized digital financial records and documentation.
  • Support management with financial analysis and operational reporting.
  • Collaborate with operations and management teams to improve financial processes and controls.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years relevant accounting experience, preferably in an events, hospitality, or project-based environment.
  • Experience managing payroll and statutory remittances.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks remotely.
  • Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent) is an added advantage.
