First established in the UK in 1919, separate national organizations have been set up in more than twenty-eight countries, sharing the aim of improving the lives of children through education, health care and economic opportunities, as well as emergency aid in cases of natural disasters, war and conflict.

In Nigeria, Save the Children has been working since 2001. The early focus was on getting children actively involved in shaping the decisions that affect their lives. Today, Save the Children is working in seven federal states - Zamfara, Yobe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Bauchi and Kaduna - focusing on providing basic healthcare and protecting children.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Consultant - Facilitation of The Adoption of The Child Right Act in Northern Nigeria

Assignment Purpose
  • The Purpose of this consultancy is to facilitate the review and acceptance and ownership of the child right act in the 12 Northern states that are yet to pass the law.
  • The specific aim of the work for the consultant is to be able to identify and harmonise all critical issues resolved by some of the states who have already reviewed the act but were unable to pass it due to contentious resistance.
  • The consultant will work with other identified facilitators and come up with a reviewed draft law that will further be presented to the northern states for adoption and passage. 
  • He will provide leadership in key meetings including a proposed conference for critical stakeholders in the country.
Specific Tasks
  • Desk review - Analyse selected reviewed acts from some selected states and agree on a harmonised copy for discussion.
  • Facilitate an internal meeting of selected stakeholders to review the harmonised draft law and agree on key strategies of taking it forward including documentation.
  • Facilitate a stakeholders forum with key Islamic groups and activists from all the Northern states to present the reviewed draft law.
  • To collate feedback from the forum and feed it into the final agreed draft proposal.
  • To facilitate a Child Right Act Northern conference in collaboration with JNI and UNICEF
