Job Title: Modern Trade Executive

Location: Kano

Job Summary

  • The Modern Trade Executive is responsible for driving sales growth, product availability, visibility, and market penetration across modern trade channels such as supermarkets, hypermarkets, chain stores, and key retail outlets.
  • The role involves managing key accounts, negotiating listings, ensuring effective merchandising, executing trade promotions, and maintaining strong relationships with store managers and category buyers. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow assigned modern trade accounts to achieve sales volume and revenue targets.
  • Develop account plans for supermarkets, hypermarkets, and key retail chains.
  • Drive product listing, distribution expansion, and shelf space acquisition.
  • Ensure stock availability and prevent out-of-stock situations across all assigned outlets.
  • Monitor sales performance and recommend strategies to improve sell-in and sell-out.
  • Identify and onboard new modern trade customers, chains, and retail partners.
  • Build strong relationships with category managers, buyers, and decision-makers.
  • Expand product penetration across diaper, pad, wipes, and underlay categories.
  • Ensure proper placement and visibility of new product launches.
  • Execute trade promotions, in-store activations, and product sampling campaigns.
  • Support in drafting agreements and ensuring compliance with contract terms.
  • Handle disputes, claims, returns, and deductions professionally.
  • Maintain accurate records of trade terms and commercial agreements.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports for management review.
  • Track KPIs such as sell-in, sell-out, returns, market share, and stock levels.
  • Provide market feedback on customer needs, pricing trends, and competitor strategies.
  • Collaborate with marketing team on brand visibility and campaign execution.
  • Ensure smooth communication between internal departments and customers.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, or related field.
  • 2 – 4 years experience in Modern Trade / Key Account sales (FMCG preferred).
  • Strong experience selling into supermarkets, pharmacies, and retail chains.
  • Knowledge of hygiene/personal care products (diapers, pads, wipes) is an advantage.
  • Strong negotiation, relationship-building, and communication skills.
  • Good understanding of merchandising, planograms, and trade promotions. 
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and sales reporting tools.
