We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Accountant 

Location: Agbara, Lagos

Job Purpose

  • The School Accountant is responsible for managing the school’s financial records, ensuring accurate accounting processes, maintaining compliance with statutory and internal policies, and providing timely financial reports to support effective decision-making.
  • The role also involves overseeing fee collection, budgeting, payroll support, and safeguarding the school’s financial assets.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting and Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in accordance with accounting standards.
  • Prepare journal entries and post transactions into the accounting system.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, petty cash, and general ledger accounts.
  • Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Ensure proper filing and documentation of all financial transactions.

School Fees and Revenue Management:

  • Manage student billing and invoicing for tuition and other school-related charges.
  • Monitor fee collections and follow up on outstanding balances.
  • Prepare reports on fee collection performance and debtor aging.
  • Reconcile fee payments with bank statements and school records.

Budgeting and Financial Planning:

  • Assist in preparing the annual budget and periodic forecasts.
  • Track actual income and expenditure against budget.
  • Provide variance analysis and explanations for management review.
  • Support departmental budget monitoring.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Generate income and expenditure statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
  • Provide financial analysis to support strategic decisions.
  • Assist in preparing reports for the Board and Management.

Payroll Support:

  • Prepare payroll input data such as allowances, deductions, and reimbursements.
  • Reconcile payroll-related accounts.
  • Ensure timely remittance of statutory deductions including PAYE, Pension, and NHF (where applicable).

Statutory Compliance and Tax Administration:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant tax and regulatory requirements in Nigeria.
  • Prepare and file statutory returns accurately and on time.
  • Liaise with government agencies, auditors, and regulatory bodies.

Audit and Internal Control:

  • Support internal and external audit exercises.
  • Maintain strong internal controls over receipts, payments, and asset management.
  • Identify and report financial risks and control weaknesses.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency.

Procurement and Expense Control:

  • Verify payment requests and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure expenditures are properly authorized and within approved budgets.
  • Monitor supplier balances and prepare payment schedules.

Asset Management:

  • Maintain the fixed asset register.
  • Track acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation of school assets.
  • Participate in periodic asset verification exercises.

Other Duties:

  • Provide financial advice to school leadership.
  • Assist with special finance projects and process improvements.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Finance or School Management.
