Job Title: Principal Subsea Hardware Engineer – XT, Manifold and Jumpers (CE)

About the Role

  • We are seeking a highly experienced and technically skilled Principal Subsea Hardware Engineer to support the design, fabrication, testing, installation, and commissioning of subsea XT systems, manifolds, jumpers, and associated connection systems for deepwater oil and gas projects.
  • The role involves supervising contractor activities at fabrication yards and offshore sites, ensuring compliance with HSE standards, project specifications, quality requirements, and approved procedures while supporting timely project delivery.
  • The successful candidate will coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, oversee testing and inspection activities, manage technical reviews and contractor queries, and contribute to risk mitigation, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • The ideal candidate holds a degree in Mechanical, Marine, or Subsea Engineering and possesses at least 10 years of experience in subsea hardware engineering, manufacturing, fabrication, and installation, with strong knowledge of subsea connection systems, industry codes/standards, and EPC project execution within the oil and gas sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote a safety culture and drive Goal Zero compliance at the worksite.
  • Enforce Shell and IOGP HSE policies and procedures at worksites.
  • Track HSSE-E&C, quality, schedule, and cost performance, and provide daily, weekly, and monthly reports to project leadership as required.
  • Review documents issued by the contractor for the Scope of Work relevant to subsea manifolds and connection systems.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical workshops, and other meetings as assigned within the Scope of Work.
  • Review and disposition deviation/derogation requests and technical queries originating from the contractor.
  • Supervise the manufacturing/fabrication of XTs, manifolds, subsea well jumpers, and associated structures, ensuring compliance with procedures, design documentation, approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and validation through testing.
  • Oversee long-lead items and other material/goods receipt, inspection, and verification activities.
  • Oversee the implementation of contractor procedure qualifications, including welding, NDE, and coating qualification tests at worksites.
  • Ensure Materials Record Books (including Certificates of Conformance and other technical documentation) are available prior to equipment loadout.
  • Liaise with the EPC-3 logistics team at local fabrication sites to support the timely transportation of equipment to the quayside and ensure safe loadout operations.
  • Ensure proper storage of subsea equipment, tools, and accessories in accordance with contractor storage and maintenance procedures.
  • Review and provide input into assembly and testing procedures, transportation and handling instructions, and installation and offshore testing procedures.
  • Liaise with the Company’s Lifting and Hoisting SME to review lift plans, rigging registers, and support safe lifting operations.
  • Supervise activities at the EPC-3 local fabrication site and confirm compliance with approved procedures, including Site Receipt Inspection, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Extended Factory Acceptance Testing (EFAT), and System Integration Testing (SIT).
  • Work with the EPC-3 contractor to ensure quality issues are properly identified, documented, and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Provide status and progress reports on activities to the Sub-Package Lead.
  • Log and track lessons learned during detailed design and manufacturing activities within the package.
  • Collaborate with EPC-3 workshop, planning, QC, warehouse, and other support teams during execution of the XT, manifold, and jumper scope to ensure compliance with project requirements, schedules, and key milestones.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient execution of the work scope and drive timely completion in accordance with contracts and procedures.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, including project, asset operations, wells, marine logistics, geomatics, aviation, diving, and other teams to ensure adequate support for project execution.
  • Contribute to close-out reports relevant to subsea manifolds and connection systems.
  • Oversee engineering analysis, drawing development, fabrication procedures, testing procedures (welding, NDE, coating), and other design outputs for construction.
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, and HAZIDs.
  • Review and maintain installation, operation, and maintenance manuals and guidelines.
  • Review, check, and approve construction drawings at worksites.
  • Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), report findings, and implement preventive and corrective actions to close out issues.
  • Share knowledge across the organization and champion best practices.
  • Monitor manufacturing activities at various worksites and ensure appropriate witnessing, review, and approvals by Company representatives in line with approved project inspection and test plans.
  • Support the delivery of Integrated Workover Control Systems (IWOCS) and Completion Workover Riser Systems (CWOR).
  • Support the development of young personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline; a Master’s degree in Subsea Engineering is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 10 years of combined experience in the engineering, manufacturing/fabrication, and installation of subsea XT systems, manifolds, and tie-in systems (subsea rigid jumpers and connection systems) or related areas.
  • Knowledge of connection system engineering and manufacturing processes, including hubs and connectors used in major subsea hardware.
  • Experience in the mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic design of subsea products.
  • Previous experience representing a Company/Operator during similar project execution is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of the integration and testing of pressure-containing components such as pipes, forged fittings, valves, and hubs.
  • Proficiency in CAD for solid modeling, drawings, and schematics.
  • Strong skills in producing complex technical design layouts and proposals.
  • Knowledge and application of industry standards and codes related to subsea hardware and systems, including API RP 17R, API 6A & 17D, ASME Section IX, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.8, API RP 17H, API RP 17P, API RP 2A-WSD, AWS D1.1, DNV-RP-F119, and equivalent ISO, DNV, and NORSOK standards used in major subsea projects.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office or similar software applications.
  • Ability to work with OEM technicians and engineers to resolve technical issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
