We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician

Location: Victoria Island, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Role Summary

  • The Laboratory Technician supports the medical laboratory team by performing routine tests, preparing specimens, maintaining equipment, and ensuring accurate, timely results under the supervision of licensed Medical Laboratory Scientists. The role is critical to delivering safe, efficient diagnostic services to patients.

Key Responsibilities
Sample Collection & Processing:

  • Collect, label, and prepare blood, urine, stool, and other specimens according to standard protocols.
  • Verify patient information and specimen integrity before analysis.
  • Process samples for testing in Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, and Serology sections.

Laboratory Testing & Equipment:

  • Perform routine tests using manual and automated methods under supervision.
  • Operate, clean, and perform basic maintenance on laboratory equipment.
  • Report equipment faults and assist with calibration and quality control checks.

Quality & Safety Compliance:

  • Follow standard operating procedures, biosafety, and infection control protocols at all times.
  • Maintain accurate records of tests performed, results, and quality control data.
  • Participate in internal quality control and proficiency testing programs.

Inventory & Housekeeping:

  • Monitor reagent and consumable levels and notify the supervisor of low stock.
  • Keep the laboratory work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Ensure proper disposal of medical waste in line with hospital policy.

Support & Communication:

  • Assist Medical Laboratory Scientists with complex tests and troubleshooting.
  • Communicate urgent / critical results to the supervising scientist immediately.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all patient-related matters.

Requirements

  • Education: OND / HND / BSc Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Science Laboratory Technology, or related field from a recognized institution.
  • Registration: Registration with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) as a Laboratory Technician where applicable.
  • Experience: 3-4years of experience in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory preferred. NYSC graduates will be considered.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and safety practices.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work with minimal supervision.
  • Good attention to detail and record-keeping skills.
  • Basic computer literacy for data entry in LIS / HMIS.

Attributes:

  • Reliable, team-oriented, discreet, and able to work shifts including weekends and nights if required.
