Job Title: Staff Nurse

Location: Area 1, Abuja
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • A school nurse is a registered nurse (RN) whomanages student health within an educational setting, providing direct care, managing chronic conditions, and promoting wellness.
  • Key duties include treating injuries, administering medication, creating individual health plans, performing screenings, and acting as a liaison between families and healthcare providers.

Core Responsibilities

  • Direct Medical Care: Provide first aid, emergency care, and treat acute illnesses/injuries for students and staff.
  • Chronic Condition Management: Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) for conditions like diabetes, asthma, and allergies.
  • Medication Administration: Safely administer, document, and store medications according to school policy.
  • Health Screenings & Prevention: Conduct vision, hearing, and postural screenings; monitor immunization compliance.
  • Documentation & Records :Maintain accurate, up-to-date health records and student medical histories.
  • Education & Counseling: Offer health counseling to students, families, and staff regarding nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field.
  • Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
  • Certification: Often requires certification through the National Board for Certification of School Nurses (NBCSN) or state-specific certification.
  • Experience: Previous experience in pediatric, emergency, or community nursing is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong communication, proficient computer skills, and ability to work independently.

Environment & Safety:

  • Safety Monitoring: Participate in environmental safety checks (e.g., playground hazards) and infectious disease prevention.
  • Collaboration: Work with staff on student health policies and act as a liaison with community health professionals.
