Job Title: HSE Officer

Location: Abuja (FCT)

Key  Responsibilities 

  • Conduct regular inspections of hospital premises for fire risks, and ensure full compliance with Nigerian fire safety laws and hospital policies.
  • Monitor and maintain fire safety systems such as alarms, extinguishers, sprinklers, and emergency lighting.
  • Ensure fire extinguishers, are correctly placed, serviced, and signed-off.
  • Participate in audits for NHIS, FMOH, or international accreditation bodies (e.g. COHSASA, ISO).
  • Serve as the first responder in case of fire- related incidents and activate the hospital's Code Red protocols.
  • Lead evacuation efforts and coordinate with local fire services when needed.
  • Document and report all incidents related to fire, including root cause analysis and recommendations.
  • Organize and conduct fire drills, evacuation simulations, and fire marshal training.
  • Sensitize all hospital staff-clinical and non-clinical-on fire prevention procedures and response roles.
  • Provide input into hospital-wide disaster preparedness and emergency response planning.
  • Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly checks of fire safety systems and coordinaté repairs or upgrades when necessary.
  • Supervise vendors or contractors involved in fire safety installations or maintenance.
  • Maintain detailed fire logbooks, drill attendance records, and maintenance checklists.
  • Submit monthly fire safety reports to the Chief Security Officer.

Job Requirement
Experience:

  • Degree in Fire Safety Management, Environmental Health, or a related field.
  • Fire Safety Certification (eg. NEBOSH Fire Safety, NFPA, or Nigeria Civil Defence Fire Training).
  • First Aid and Emergency Response training is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a fire safety or emergency response role, preferably in a hospital or healthcare setting."
  • In-depth understanding of Nigerian fire safety regulations and healthcare-specific risks.
  • Confident, calm decision-maker in high- pressure situations.
  • Strong interpersonal and training skills.
  • Able to write clear reports and maintain accurate records.

Other Requirements:

  • All candidates must be highly motivated team players who are willing to go the extra mile.
  • They should possess excellent Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills are essential.
  • Prior knowledge and experience in the medical field would be an advantage.
