Job Title: Head, Medical Laboratory 

Location: Abuja (FCT)

Key  Responsibilities 

  • Providing strategic leadership and operational oversight of the hospital's laboratory services, to patients, ensuring accurate, timely, and high-quality diagnostic testing in compliance with regulatory standards and best medical practices
  • Planning, organizing and directing laboratory operations and ensuring compliance with rules and regulations guiding hospital laboratory practice.
  • Ensuring effectiveness of operations, utilization of facilities, equipment, supplies and personnel and general ethical and professional atmosphere of the laboratory.
  • Initiate, interpret and enforce Laboratory Services procedures, establish and maintain standards of performance ensuring competency and appropriate licensure of personnel.
  • Responsible for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of performance improvement and Quality Control activities Responsible for providing 24/7 functionality of Laboratory Services.
  • Ensure compliance with biosafety and infection control standards; enforce proper waste disposal procedures; manage laboratory risks and incident reporting.
  • Prepare Laboratory budgets for personnel, operating expenses, capital equipment and supportrevenue generation.
  • Consult other departments, as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities,
  • Communicate appropriately and clearly to physicians as well as interact professionally with patient/family
  • Coordinate the department's in-house training, provide excellent customer service and always maintain a professional demeanour

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (B. MLS) or Associate Medical Laboratory Science (AMLS) Fellowship or master's degree in a Healthcare Management, or a related field is an added advantage.
  • Full registration and valid license from the Medical Laboratory Scientist Council of Nigeria (MLSCN
  • Minimum of 10 years post-NYSC hospital laboratory experience or medical diagnóstic centre environment, with at least 5 years in a senior or managerial role,
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory systems and procedures
  • Quality assurance and accreditation processes
  • Proficiency with Laboratory, information systems (LIS) Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and related IT fools.
  • Laboratory equipment management and troubleshooting Strong leadership, strategic planning. decision-making skills and manage emergencies
  • Attention to detail and high accuracy orientation
  • High level of integrity and professionalism,
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.

Other Requirements:

  • All candidates must be highly motivated team players who are willing to go the extra mile.
  • They should possess excellent Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills are essential.
  • Prior knowledge and experience in the medical field would be an advantage.
