Job Title: Head, Nursing Services
Location: Abuja (FCT)
Key Responsibilties
- Coordinate patient care with medical staff and other healthcare professionals.
- Promote optimum patient, visitor, and staff relations.
- Develop and monitor nurse duty schedules and adjust for sickness and absenteeism.
- Plan efficient use of staffing resources in the department to ensure optimal productivity.
- Develop and implement hospital nursing care policies.
- Provide oversight for all Nurses and Patient Care Assistants (Nurse Assistants).
- Ensure delivery of quality nursing services daily.
- Enforce health and safety regulations within the Nursing Department.
- Assess daily activities across all units in the Nursing Department.
- Assist in management budget decisions.
- Train and educate subordinates regularly.
- Liaise with other healthcare professionals for holistic patient care.
- Supervise Unit Heads, Nurse Interns, and Student Nurses during their practical training.
- Drive continuous improvements in safety, clinical quality, effectiveness, and efficiency.
- Act as a liaison between the Nursing Department and Hospital Management."
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Management/CEO.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (B.Sc Nursing) with valid Registered Nurse/Midwife (RN/RM) certification.
- A Master's degree in Nursing, Health Administration, or a related field is an added advantage.
- Certification in healthcare leadership, management, or patient safety is desirable.
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience, including at least 5 years in a senior in a senior nursing of nursing management role, preferably in a tertiary healthcare setting.
- Proven track record of leading nursing teams, managing nursing operations, and implementing healthcare standards.
- Experience in working within facilities seeking or maintaining international healthcare accreditation (e.g., JCI) is preferred.
- Strong understanding of clinical governance, nursing standards, and patient- Centered care models.
- Sound knowledge of Nigerian healthcare regulations. NHIS Operations, and hospital compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in hospital management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Exceptional leadership, organizational and team-building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop policies, manage budgets, and oversee performance metrics.
- Ability to motivate and mentor nursing staff, including interns and student nurses. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Culturally competent and sensitive to patient and staff diversity.
- High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
- Resilient, proactive, and able to manage high-pressure environments.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement.
