Job Title: Head, Nursing Services

Location: Abuja (FCT)

Key Responsibilties

  • Coordinate patient care with medical staff and other healthcare professionals.
  • Promote optimum patient, visitor, and staff relations.
  • Develop and monitor nurse duty schedules and adjust for sickness and absenteeism.
  • Plan efficient use of staffing resources in the department to ensure optimal productivity.
  • Develop and implement hospital nursing care policies.
  • Provide oversight for all Nurses and Patient Care Assistants (Nurse Assistants).
  • Ensure delivery of quality nursing services daily.
  • Enforce health and safety regulations within the Nursing Department.
  • Assess daily activities across all units in the Nursing Department.
  • Assist in management budget decisions.
  • Train and educate subordinates regularly.
  • Liaise with other healthcare professionals for holistic patient care.
  • Supervise Unit Heads, Nurse Interns, and Student Nurses during their practical training.
  • Drive continuous improvements in safety, clinical quality, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Act as a liaison between the Nursing Department and Hospital Management."
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Management/CEO.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (B.Sc Nursing) with valid Registered Nurse/Midwife (RN/RM) certification.
  • A Master's degree in Nursing, Health Administration, or a related field is an added advantage.
  • Certification in healthcare leadership, management, or patient safety is desirable.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience, including at least 5 years in a senior in a senior nursing of nursing management role, preferably in a tertiary healthcare setting.
  • Proven track record of leading nursing teams, managing nursing operations, and implementing healthcare standards.
  • Experience in working within facilities seeking or maintaining international healthcare accreditation (e.g., JCI) is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of clinical governance, nursing standards, and patient- Centered care models.
  • Sound knowledge of Nigerian healthcare regulations. NHIS Operations, and hospital compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in hospital management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational and team-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop policies, manage budgets, and oversee performance metrics.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor nursing staff, including interns and student nurses. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Culturally competent and sensitive to patient and staff diversity.
  • High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
  • Resilient, proactive, and able to manage high-pressure environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement.

  • Prior knowledge and experience in the medical field would be an advantage.
