The AMCE will provide exceptional care to people on the African continent, regardless of their financial means. Developed by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in clinical partnership with King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust., AMCE Abuja is the first of five centres planned for development in Africa.

Job Purpose
- The Medical Education Officer is responsible for the coordination, development, and management of medical education programmes at the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE).
- This role is central to ensuring that junior doctors, residents, and medical students receive high-quality training that meets accreditation standards and prepares them for clinical excellence.
- The officer will support curriculum delivery, trainee assessments, continuing professional development (CPD), and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- The role holder will collaborate with clinical department heads, consultants, and academic institutions to maintain robust medical education systems and support AMCE's mission of fostering a culture of lifelong learning and clinical excellence.
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities
Curriculum Coordination and Delivery:
- Coordinate the delivery of medical education curricula for junior doctors, residents, and medical students in alignment with international best practices and national guidelines.
- Collaborate with clinical department heads and consultant physicians to identify learning needs and educational gaps.
- Organise bedside teaching rounds, grand rounds, journal clubs, and morbidity and mortality (M&M) meetings.
- Integrate simulation-based learning, case-based discussions, and e-learning modules into training programmes.
Trainee Assessment and Management:
- Administer competency assessments for medical trainees, including written exams, objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs), and workplace-based assessments.
- Track and analyse trainee performance data to identify improvement areas and at-risk trainees.
- Implement remediation plans for underperforming trainees in collaboration with clinical supervisors.
- Maintain accurate and secure records of all trainee assessments and progress.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD):
- Organise workshops, seminars, certification programmes, and conferences for medical staff and trainees.
- Maintain records of CPD activities and ensure accreditation with relevant medical councils and colleges.
- Promote a culture of lifelong learning among physicians, residents, and medical students.
- Identify external conferences, fellowships, and training opportunities for medical staff.
Compliance and Accreditation Support
- Ensure all medical education programmes adhere to AMCE's policies and regulatory standards.
- Liaise with accreditation bodies (e.g., West African College of Physicians, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, JCI) for education-related audits and site visits.
- Prepare documentation and evidence for accreditation surveys and regulatory reviews.
- Maintain training records and compliance reports for internal and external audits.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Liaise with clinical department heads, consultants, nursing education teams, and human resources to coordinate training activities.
- Support coordination between AMCE and academic institutions for joint training programmes and partnerships.
- Provide data and insights to support medical education research, curriculum improvements, and hospital-wide learning initiatives.
Professional Development:
- Stay current with medical education trends, teaching methodologies, and assessment best practices.
- Participate in professional development activities, workshops, and training sessions related to medical education.
- Support institutional efforts to enhance teaching quality and trainee outcomes.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Education, Health Professions Education, or a related field (Master's degree in Medical Education is highly desirable).
- Relevant training or certification in medical education, curriculum design, or clinical teaching (e.g., Certificate in Medical Education, Fellowship in Health Professions Education) is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of medical education principles, competency-based assessment, adult learning theories, medical terminology, and clinical workflows.
- Awareness of accreditation standards for medical training (e.g., West African College of Physicians, National Postgraduate Medical College, JCI).
- At least 3 years of experience as a Medical Education Officer, Clinical Tutor, Residency Coordinator, or in a related role.
- Prior experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), simulation-based training, or e-learning platforms is an advantage. Familiarity with accreditation processes is desirable.
