We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Chief Security Officer

Location: Lagos

Direct Reports: Outsourced Security Agencies, Security Operatives

Job Purpose

  • Ensure all processes relating to theft detection, investigation, and prevention are effective and efficient.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and management of comprehensive security strategies to safeguard company assets, personnel, operations, and reputation.
  • Ensure compliance with international trade laws, protect supply chains, mitigate risks related to theft, piracy, and cyber threats, and coordinate responses to security incidents.

Core Responsibilties

  • Develop and execute the organisation’s overall security strategy.
  • Advise executive management on security risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Implement and enforce security policies for staff, customers, and visitors.
  • Protect company assets, cargo, and facilities during storage, transportation, and distribution.
  • Collaborate with logistics and warehousing partners to ensure supply chain security.
  • Oversee physical security operations across offices, warehouses, and operational locations.
  • Implement access control systems, surveillance systems, and monitoring solutions.
  • Coordinate security awareness and safety programs for employees.
  • Ensure availability of armed response support where required.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and security standards.
  • Manage security audits, certifications, and compliance assessments.
  • Develop emergency response plans for theft, disruptions, cyber threats, and crisis situations.
  • Lead investigations and coordinate with law enforcement, regulators, insurers, and stakeholders.
  • Conduct periodic risk assessments and recommend preventive measures.
  • Manage internal security teams and external security vendors.
  • Lead security training and awareness initiatives.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Reduction in security incidents and asset losses.
  • Compliance with security and regulatory requirements.
  • Effectiveness and response time during security incidents.
  • Completion rate for employee security training programs.
  • Successful completion of security audits and certifications.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Security Management, Risk Management, Criminal Justice, International Trade, or a related field.
  • Master’s Degree is an added advantage.
  • Relevant professional certifications such as CPP, CISM, or CISSP are preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in security leadership roles, preferably within commodity trading, logistics, export, or related sectors.
  • Strong understanding of international export regulations and supply chain security standards.

  • Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of security protocols, crisis management, and investigation techniques.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in complex operational environments.
  • Knowledge of physical security systems including CCTV, alarms, and access control.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and security audits.
  • Ability to develop and enforce security policies and procedures.
  • Strong report writing and documentation skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Willingness to travel locally and internationally where required.

  • Provide leadership on the organisation’s overall security strategy and risk management framework.
  • Approve security policies, procedures, technologies, and operational initiatives.
  • Lead decision-making during emergencies and security incidents.
  • Manage relationships with security vendors, regulators, and law enforcement agencies.
  • Oversee security budgets, staffing, and capability development.
  • Provide regular security updates and risk reports to executive management.
